Colleen and Greg first met on February 24th, 2018 through mutual friends in Atlanta, GA. Greg was living there at the time, and Colleen was visiting sorority sisters from college with another girlfriend for a much-needed “girls weekend.” Little did she know, she would meet her future husband that weekend… The two hit it off initially over their family roots in Rhode Island and their love for Newport. They both knew there was undeniable chemistry between them, but it simply was not the right time so they exchanged phone numbers and very loosely kept in touch over the following year and a half. By “very loosely,” we mean that the two primarily texted one another just before a trip to Rhode Island…you know, in the miraculous off chance that the other may happen to be there as well. It was August 15th, 2019 when Colleen was on a plane preparing for takeoff to Rhode Island for a family friend’s wedding, and she thought about texting Greg. Then she thought to herself, “What’s the point, Colleen? It’s been almost a year and a half; you’ll never see that guy again…” So she did not text him, nor did she post anything on social media (per usual for Colleen). The next day, Colleen was leaving Second Beach—a place she and Greg both love dearly and really bonded over when they first met—when she received a text from Greg asking, “Hey, any chance you’re in RI this weekend?” She had to reread the text several times to process what she had read. Sure enough, Greg happened to be visiting his parents where he grew up in Barrington, RI that weekend! Despite Colleen’s inflexible, chock-full schedule with wedding and family events, Greg insisted on seeing her under any circumstances. Subsequently, Greg drove about an hour from Barrington, RI and courageously entered the Midtown Oyster Bar in Newport, where Colleen was surrounded by countless family and friends for Greg to meet. Colleen was so nervous given that she had only met this man one time, and now he was meeting nearly her entire family! Greg absolutely knocked it out of the park, as he always does, with his calm, cool, and collected nature and humble confidence. Colleen’s Dad, who is a tough one to impress, could not stop raving about how impressed he was with Greg! Greg left such a lasting impression that Colleen could not refuse his offer to come visit her in Florida a few weeks later. The rest is history!
