MaryKate and Tyler met while attending UNCW. Both served on the executive board of UNCW's event programming board, better known as ACE. Naturally, Tyler made sure to check the ACE constitution for any rules about dating the ACE president before officially asking MaryKate out on a date. After graduating from college, MaryKate moved to Knoxville, Tennessee to pursue a master's degree and Tyler moved to North Hollywood, CA to begin working in the television industry. Through countless video calls, virtual game nights, and cross-country flights, the relationship persevered. In June 2019 MaryKate joined Tyler in California where they moved into their first home together and got their first dog, Brandi. In December of 2021, while Tyler and MaryKate were back in Wilmington for the holidays, Tyler took MaryKate out on what they call a "nostalgia day." They visited places in Wilmington that played special parts in their relationship: UNCW (where they first met), Nicola's (the Italian restaurant where they had their very first date). They eventually ended up on the beach, a place where they had no real memories despite only living 10 minutes away from it for years.
