The summer of 2009 is where our crazy, wild, beautiful adventure began, though at the time we didn't know it. Staffing at a summer camp in the verdant mountains of Cloudland, GA, we met over an impromptu picnic dinner after torrential rain brought everyone indoors for the evening. It was less than a "sparks flying" encounter: soaked to the bone, exhausted from weeks of corralling excitable children, and pungent with the odor of cold well-water showers. Yet somehow, despite the forces of smell and tiredness, we found the makings of an unlikely friendship. Over the next few years, my special brand of lively vigor balanced her calming, steady nature to meld into something that was bigger and more satisfying than both of us could have ever dreamed. On January 11th, 2011 my best friend became my girl, and wow, if this is dreaming, I never want to wake up :)
2018 was a big year! I finished school rotations, graduated with my doctorate, started a great job in our beautiful home town, and little did I know Katie had a big, fat cherry to put on top of my already tricked-out sundae of major life events: a proposal. October 20th, 2018 we had a perfect day wandering through the aquarium, grabbing good food on Market Street, and a lovely stroll around Waterfront Park. Toward the end I realized this day seemed familiar; as the light bulb came on, illuminating the fact that we had just had our first date all over again, I turned around to see my girl with a box. In that box was a ring. And within that ring a question. To that question, what else could I say? YES!!! As we celebrated our engagement the sky opened up, drenching us in cool fall rain. Our journey continued as it began: soaked and full of joy.
