How We Met

July 2013

We met at work during Amanda's first year of residency. The first encounters we recall involve some offensive decorations on Amanda's desk....(Miz-who?), and then a challenge from Scott to answer a phone call (as a baby resident the phone is one of the most intimidating things!). That playful banter progressed to post it notes and Facebook messages, next were *real* text messages, and finally an invitation on a trip to the happiest place on earth.

The Proposal

10 * 14 * 17

From the very beginning of our dating relationship, it has been a running joke that Scott would not be proposing until we had been dating for ten years. This was always met with protest from Amanda, but persisted nonetheless. About a year prior to the proposal we picked out a ring (ok, fine, located might be a better choice of word as that ring was chosen long ago). However, enough time had passed since that day to really convince her that it would not be happening any time soon. The weekend of our third dating anniversary arrived and had us traveling to Vancouver, BC for a conference. On Friday night, we scoped out a great restaurant, Teahouse, in Stanley Park and made plans to return the next night to celebrate. Saturday, after choosing to forgo the fancy dress that was packed due to the chill in the air we set out for an amazing dinner. Looking back on it later, Scott's reluctance to give his "Never Summer" sweatshirt to the well dressed hostess should have been a red flag, but was chalked up to his odd love for that garment! After appetizers, a full meal, bread, dessert and a bottle of champagne we left. On the way to the car Amanda did everything possible to ruin this moment for Scott. He suggested a walk down by the water, commenting on the beauty of the night, the water, the boats, and the city lights across the way. Freezing and full, she continued to suggest that these things might look just as good from a vehicle! Eventually, he coerced her into a short stroll, and soon after asked if she wanted to marry him. Fully convinced of the ten year plan at this point, she replied, "yeah, in 7 years" and continued down the path. All of the sudden he was down on one knee, with a ring, and repeated, "will you marry me?" I wish something eloquent would have been spoken here, but "holy sh*t, of course!" got the point across as well!
