Kelly and Brittany met August 1, 2015 at The Oregon Jamboree Music Festival in Sweet Home, Oregon. Kelly and his good friend (now best man) Matthew Sheets were walking into the music festival when Brittany and her twin sister were spotted by the two of them. Brittany quickly made eye contact with Kelly and leaned over to her sister and said, “I call dibs on the guy in the blue shirt”. Since Brittany and Jessica were volunteering for the music festival, they needed one more participant for the promo event they were running on stage. Matthew, being the best wing man, ultimately volunteered for the contest and WON. Turns out, it was Brittany and Kelly who really won that weekend. They quickly realized that Kelly had just moved to Grants Pass which is Brittany’s hometown. When they got back to Grants Pass after the festival Kelly asked Brittany to come over for dinner. From then on, even through the years they had to be in a long-distance relationship they were inseparable. 3.5 years later Kelly popped the question.
- As told by Brittany - The proposal happened out of nowhere, we had a free weekend and were planning to go on a hike. I actually asked if we could go fishing instead, but he was persistent on going to check out a new trail. The falls on the hike is known by many different photographers because of how beautiful the area is. We were in the middle of planning our next Alaska trip to the Northern Lights and wanted to test out our new camera we just got for the upcoming trip. There were a few other people in and out around the same time taking pics etc. there was even a dog I got to play with for a minute and then I said to Kelly “Day made!” because of the dog. Then I started to complain that I was cold and hungry and, “Was no longer having any fun,” and asked if we could leave. He convinced me to eat some lunch and tried to warm me back up. We started working on my camera again with the settings and self-timer and spent a few mins trying to get a good photo of the falls and us in it. At this point we somehow had the falls all to ourselves. We finally nailed the self-timer but he said we should take one more. So I ran back to the camera and started the self-timer, then he dropped to a knee. I thought kelly was joking and begged him not to be joking and then he told me it was forever. It was so special, no one was around, and it was just the best day of my life...
