Grab your boots and saddle up for a horseback ride at the Black Butte Stables! Professional wranglers from Black Butte Stables have been leading trail rides at the Ranch for over 20 years. Join the guides and their gentle, trail-wise horses for a classic trail ride and explore the forested trails of Central Oregon. Guided rides are available for guests 7 years of age and older, year round. All experience levels are welcome.
Each of the five swimming pools at Black Butte Ranch was designed for more than just taking a swim. They are sanctuaries where you can relax in the sun and read a good book, create exciting activities with your family and take in the natural splendor and spectacular mountain views. When not in the water, guests can lounge on comfortable chairs under shady umbrellas while savoring food and refreshments from the Bistro and Snack Shops.
The staff at the Lakeside Pool offers canoes, kayaks, stand up paddle boards rentals for you to enjoy on Phalarope Lake. Paddles and life jackets are included.
Catch and Release Fly Fishing at Black Butte Ranch: Located on the Ranch, Phalarope Lake is a splendid place to learn to fly fish. This is the only lake on the Ranch reserved for fly fishing (they let the wildlife enjoy the others). Barbless hooks and “catch and release” procedures are required. An Oregon fishing license is also needed, available online at Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife.
