Katie and Troy have matching tattoos, potted geraniums, that they got spontaneously one night in Philadelphia.

One night during their senior year of college, Katie came back from a party to find Troy sitting outside of her apartment with a giant potted geranium.

Since it was after midnight, Katie wondered how Troy had acquired the plant from Home Depot...but either way, she thought it was quite romantic. They named the plant Ruby and put it in Katie's room.

One day, Troy and Katie had the brilliant idea to plant Ruby on the Marist campus, so under the cover of darkness, they grabbed a shovel, picked a spot, and went and dug a hole for Ms. Ruby.

Needless to say, the Marist College grounds department made quick work of tearing Ruby out of the ground and they never saw her again - the tattoos are to remember her.

Katie and Troy had an intense back and forth competition throughout college of who could win more games of Battleship. Troy was convinced he "had the best configurations"

This tradition has carried on throughout their relationship, and their love for board games, puzzles, and the New York Times games is very present in their life together.

Years into dating, Katie finally admitted to Troy that in college she would move the battleships around in order to beat his configurations. Troy calls this cheating, Katie calls it real life.

Katie won the game they played during this photo shoot, though :)
