It's the Summer Solstice in the Caribbean so it will be warm. The daytime temperature in Belize hovers between 80 F and 87 F in the summer though the island breeze cools things down in the mornings and evenings. All hotels in San Pedro and most businesses have air conditioning. Mahogany Bay is no different.
Though we appreciate that you want to remember our wedding just as much as we do, live in the moment for a while. Our ceremony will be short and we've hired professional photographers to capture our wedding and all the moments in between. All guests will have access to all the photos after our wedding ends.
The Belizean Dollar. The exchange rate is $2.00 BZD to $1.00 USD. Most places, with the exception of street vendors and some small businesses, take major U.S. credit cards. You may have some difficulty with American Express and Discover. U.S. paper currency (not coins) is accepted everywhere. You will get change in Belizean Dollars.
Rice and beans, stewed chicken, and salad is the national dish of Belize. Also try fry jacks (puffy fried dough, usually eaten at breakfast with refried beans, eggs, and Dutch cheese), whole fish, conch ceviche (if it's in season), tacos, fresh mango, coconut, Belikin beer (the national beer of Belize!), and local rum.
Many languages are spoken in Belize and most people are at least bilingual. English is Belize's official language; however, if you'd like to practice your Spanish, most locals in San Pedro also speak Spanish. You'll commonly hear people speaking in Belizean Kriol (Creole) as well. A Creole is a mixture of two or more languages; Belizean Creole is based in English with influences from other African, Spanish, and local indigenous languages.
