How We Met

They met like most 21st Century Couples, on an online dating app, Hinge. Trevor's "like" led to consistent conversation about travel and after a little back and forth it led to their first date. Kayla thought Trevor was boring via text and wasn't sure about how their first date would go. But after two and a half hours at Yard House, they both thought that this could be something special. By the fourth date, Trevor had been introduced to some of Kayla's closest friends and family. He fit in seamlessly. When Trevor left for a work trip, they both knew they wanted to date each other after missing the other's company. They decided to go to a country music festival at the beach with Kayla's friends. Trevor says that he thought based off of Kayla's dating history (or lack there of) and her standards; he thought he would have to court her longer. But at the festival, Kayla was ready for commitment and asked Trevor, "are you going to date me or what"? Kayla also secretly told her friends that she was going to "marry this man". It was a fast love, Kayla met Trevor's mom and sister about 2 months later on vacation in Hatteras, NC. As things progressed, Kayla traveled to Denver about a year after dating to meet Trevor's extended family. That trip confirmed that everyone saw what they felt. After their trip to Mexico in September 2024, they began discussions on what their future would look like together and Kayla gave Trevor the green light to propose.

How He Proposed

During Kayla and I's first date, I knew I wanted to see her again and getting her to commit to a next time in person was something that was mandatory. There was just something about our conversation and her personality that I gravitated too. She made me laugh, she was real, and she was vocal. As time went by, these feelings were amplified by the amount of love that I had for her. Fast forward to July of 2025, I had left my job of 9 years and wanted to find something that not only had a better pay but that would allow me to be around more as well. As soon as this job didn't work out I was devastated, and the only person I wanted to call and see was Kayla. Even though she was hundreds of miles away at the time, I wanted to be around her. This was when I knew that she was the one I wanted to marry. We enjoyed an amazing vacation in Mexico and soon after I started planning the surprise engagement with the help of many of Kayla's friends. I had to rush the shipment of her ring because she had to have the exact one she wanted and picked out. But I knew I had the say in everything else. We had done enough poking and prodding to find out what Kayla really wanted in an engagement and picked the historic Cavalier here in Virginia Beach as the spot. The only question was, how do we get her here and plan without her seeing or knowing. As the day crept closer I wanted this to be something special, I invited her friends from all over the country to come and celebrate for a surprise party after the engagement and boy did they show up. Once she walked through the doors of the Raleigh Room at the Cavalier to see me standing with the ring, my eyes filled with tears knowing that this was the moment her and I have been so desperately waiting for, we both couldn't contain our emotions. Choked up I could barely speak, I wanted to pray over our relationship and ask her to marry me. We had cocktails waiting and pictures at the ready before dinner. For her surprise, I didn't want her texting or talking to any of her friends so I told her to "enjoy the moment." We left dinner and went to Waterman's spirits to see all her friends and family that had flown in and showed up to surprise her. I think she was more shocked about this than the engagement. It ended with great drinks and great company, can't wait for you to celebrate with us on November 8th!
