The year was 1997, Lisa and Travis were in high school together at the The High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. Lisa was studying vocal performance and Travis was studying dance. They met in rehearsals for a show that they were in together. Lisa played one of the leads... as a singing donkey. Travis took one look at that donkey and thought "That ass is mine." Through the run of the show they connected and talked backstage, but didn't take it further than a friendship. Travis always thought that Lisa was very special, and he remembered that when they reconnected in 2020 over Facebook.
Travis reached out to Lisa on Facebook and said "Hey! You're fluent in Spanish, right?" They had not spoken in 20 years. He needed a Spanish translation for a work order he was sending. Lisa said that her father was fluent in Spanish and Italian, but when anyone spoke those languages to her she replied in English or Spanglish. They struck up a conversation, and continued to talk over Facebook the next few months, and eventually exchanged numbers. It was the middle of the pandemic, so their first face-to-face was over Zoom with a glass of wine on July 24th. Lisa was already in bed at 8:30pm in an oversized t-shirt and pajama pants. Travis was living in Dallas. Travis messaged Lisa to ask if she wanted to grab a glass of wine and catch up over Zoom. They did this for a few months, and then Travis made a trip to Houston in September and asked Lisa if he could take her to dinner. They went and had a great time. Travis and Lisa kissed for the first time on October 7th. They dated for the next year, and Travis moved to Houston by the next October. The rest is history :)
Lisa and Travis went to the beach house for Lisa's birthday. As soon as they got there, Travis asked Lisa if they could pop a bottle of champagne and they could sit on the front porch together with some bubbly. They were sitting outside on the porch. Lisa took 3 sips of champagne and her ADHD took over. "I know!" she said. "We should see if Trey wants to meet us at the beach club and we could go swimming!!!" Travis said "We just opened this bottle of champagne." Lisa said "You said it was birthday and we could do whatever I wanted." Travis, seemingly thrown off and a little irritated, made arrangements for them to go to the pool with their friend. They got back to the beach house a few hours later, and he asked Lisa if she would like to go back out to porch to finish that bottle of champagne. Lisa said she felt like she needed to take a shower. After she took her shower, Travis asked again, and Lisa said she needed to blow dry her hair. Once her hair was done, Travis walked in and asked once again if she would like to have some champagne on the porch, and she said she wanted to do her makeup, and that it was too hot to sit on the porch. After many delays on Lisa's part, and Travis pacing through the beach house off and on for all of that time, Travis finally took her by the shoulders and sat her down. He walked over to the closet where he got the ring, and then he got down one knee, and said "You don't sit still for very long. So this is happening NOW." He said "Lisa, I have loved you since we were kids, and I love you more than ever now. I want to spend the rest of our lives together. Will you marry me?" She said "YES! YES! A thousand times, YES! This is the easiest YES of my life." Then she gave Travis a long hug, and asked him if he wanted to get that bottle of champagne so they could finish it....finally. Lisa apologized for never sitting still. Travis is a patient, patient man :) 26 years and a few hours on Lisa's birthday was a long time to wait for all of this!
