The Washboard Laundromat is an experience unlike any other in the sleepy Adirondack town of Tupper Lake--and a must try for anyone visiting the area! This 25 year-old establishment is part laundromat, part Shenandoah Native American gift store and part homemade donut shop! The gift store certailny has it's quirks, but among other things, offers intricate homemade crafts still made by the building's original indigenous owner. After you've had a look around the store, watch a fresh round of donuts be made before your eyes--and pick your favorite glaze to go on top!
The Wild Center is a great way to learn about the natural and lived history of the Adirondack region. Whether you're walking along the treetop bridges to explore a life-sized eagles nest, watching an otter do backflips or learning about indigenous Haudenosaunee communities--it's the perfect stop to bring the Adirondacks to life!
With a quick but steep trail to the top, Panther Mountain is an approachable 0.9 mile out and back climb for even the littlest of hikers. Once at the top, it has a view of Panther Pond and the High Peaks Wildnerness region that will dazzle the whole group! There are even some lovely, flat spots at the top for a picnic if that's your cup 'o tea!
Every Saturday morning from 9-1, you'll find the Saranac Lake Farmer's Market taking over Riverside Park in downtown Saranac. This market is one of the few "producer-only" markets in the Adirondacks, where everything sold must be made inhouse ensuring the integrity and diversity of products. Stop by for some flowers, a treat or even a goodie to bring home!
This side of the road BBQ spot promises all the best summer vibes--live music, picnic table seating, freshly grilled corn on the cob and locally brewed beer from Blue Line Brewery. There is also a great playground and tons of space for roaming. Although I would not go for the BBQ alone, it's a fun spot and great for a big group!
Mountain Mist Ice Cream is a must-stop for the sweet teeth among us. Drive up, order at the window and enjoy your treat at the picnic tables in the back. (P.S. This is next door to the Saranac Waterfront Lodge!)
Did somebody say cruffins, orange marmelade morning buns and plenty of GF/allergy-safe options to go around? Check out their instagram (@earlydawnconfections) weekly to see what is on the menu. Everything is locally sourced and baked with deliciousness and love!
This toy store is a must stop if you're exploring Main Street in Lake Placid. With games, puzzles, souvenirs and toys--there's plenty to keep curious minds engaged.
