Things To Do

So much great hiking! And again, bring plenty of water!

Hiking

There is great mountain biking in Salida and Buena Vista. There are plenty of bike shops in town that can get you set up with a bike and help you find the perfect trail for your experience level. Take lots of water as it will be August!

Mountain Biking

Enjoy the hot pool, but the best is walking down to the river and sitting in the hot pools.

Mount Princeton Hot Springs Resort

If you would like to extend your trip and go whitewater rafting on the Arkansas, we recommend a tour down Brown's Canyon. Of note, it will be end of season so the water levels will be low.

Beautiful views of the mountains.  Spectacular views from the top of the tram and free popcorn too!

Monarch Scenic Tram

A small artisan winery producing handcrafted wine from Colorado grapes and honey.  Expected duration is 1 to 2 hours.

Vino Salida Wine Cellars

They give you a coffee container of fish food to feed the fish.

Mt. Shavano Fish Hatchery

You walk in thinking that you don't drink whiskey or rye..... and you walk out a whiskey and rye drinker.  Suggested duration is 2 to 3 hours.

Woods High Mountain Distillery

This is a suspension bridge over the Arkansas River.  It is 41 miles away in Canon City, Co

Royal Gorge Bridge and Park

Our favorite brewery! This is also where we decided to put in an offer for the home we now own in Salida :) 
Elevation is a short drive or bike ride from Salida.

Elevation Beer Company

Rent some tubes or paddleboards and ride the rapids in the river park in downtown Salida.  1/4 mile of fun rapids and pools with a riverside walkway for multiple laps!!

Tubing/Paddleboarding, Salida Whitewater Park

The Arkansas River is a gold medal trout stream.  Licenses are available at most grocery stores, outdoor stores, etc.  Pack the fly rod!
