Dress Warmly: The summit is 10,000 feet high and temperatures hover around freezing before dawn.
To drive your car and watch the sunrise at Haleakalā National Park, you must purchase a $1.00 vehicle reservation on Recreation.gov in advance. Booking Window: Reservations open exactly 60 days in advance at 7:00 am Hawaii Standard Time. A limited batch of remaining tickets is released 48 hours in advance (7/15/26). Limits: Only one sunrise reservation is permitted per vehicle every three days. Requirements: The reservation holder must be present in the vehicle with a valid photo ID and the email confirmation. Entrance Fees: The $1.00 reservation fee does not include park admission. You will pay the standard $30 per-vehicle entrance fee (or present your America the Beautiful Pass) at the gate.
