How We Met

#notsponsored

We met through Bumble which is a dating app. It’s just hard to find women who like women in person. I was already very impressed with her profile. She was a cutie pie with a mischievous smile and fluent in ASL. Sign me up! We wouldn’t be matched up for a couple of weeks but when we did, you can bet that I was so excited that I instantly let my little sister know about it.

Our First Date

March 6, 2020

We met up at the Laser Putt Putt Golf place at the mall (it has closed down since then, bummer). Taylor drove an hour from work back to her house only to drive another 25 minutes to make it to the mall but it was worth it, obviously. I did everything in my power to impress Taylor by making her laugh as much as possible. Putt Putt went so well that I asked Taylor if she would like to get some food and suggested Fuji’s which was in the same parking lot. We were having so much fun that I didn’t want the date to end so soon. (Fuji’s has also closed down since then, double bummer) The line at Fuji’s was really long. The estimate was an hour long wait but we were okay with that. Surprisingly, we were called after a couple of minutes because they needed two more people to complete a table! It was a little loud so I showed off my sign language knowledge in order to impress Taylor. I was signing how it was someone’s birthday since I could see that an employee was bringing out a dessert and the drum. Taylor was pretty impressed. We then got on the topic about when our birthdays were. I shared that mine was April 28. Taylor paused and said that hers was April 25. What were the chances? AND the same year??? After eating, I asked Taylor if she could drive me to my car which was much further down the parking lot. Taylor drove over to my car but instead of me getting out, we listened and shared our favorite songs for another hour.

Through Thick and Thin

We’ve gone through so many natural disasters and a full on apocalypse since our first date. If that kind of thing doesn’t show you who you can rely on, I don’t know what does. We’ve been through a lot of thin, but we’ve made it out as a stronger team.

The Proposal

November 21, 2021

We did not do things the typical way but we certainly did things the way that would work for us! Neither of us are good with surprises and the idea of buying a ring in secret with the potential that the price would be insane or the style wasn’t something the other liked was overwhelming. We mutually agreed that marriage was on the table and went to Di’Amore Fine Jewelers. I had the idea that I wanted matching wedding bands but personalized engagement rings; that way we could have something that unified us but also something that fit our personalities. Rachel, our consultant, showed us a beautiful swirly, leafy flower crown like wedding ring and I instantly knew that was the one. Taylor picked a ring to go with it and unintentionally found the legit corresponding engagement ring! We then found my engagement ring and began the process of ordering and customizing. I still felt like something was missing, though. Taylor and I talked it out and we figured out that deep down, I needed for there to be a formal proposal. It just didn’t feel official. After months of thinking it over, I finally had an idea for what I could do; something that was ME. I drew up plans for a cross stitch pattern that said “Will You Marry Me?” with a lovely boarder that looks like a family heirloom. I show Taylor ALL the things I cross stitch so hiding this was difficult. She almost discovered it at one point when she offered to grab my wallet from my purse since I was in the drivers seat. I freaked out and claimed that I could get it on my own. On November 20th, I suggested we go do some stuff downtown like eat at a nice restaurant, go shopping etc and then stop by the Brazos Park to relax. My plan was to show her the cross stitch then but unfortunately, Taylor started to feel sick from eating so much food that she didn’t want to get out of the car. She kept saying “you can go, I’m not stopping you.” and I responded “It won’t work if you don’t go with me!” The following day, Taylor asked if we could go back to make up for not feeling well. We went to the Mayborn Museum, had a grand old time and then went back to the Brazos Park. After a while of relaxing, I said “oh, I need to show you my cross stitch!” She was confused because she thought she had seen all of the projects I had worked on. I handed her a folded up cloth and told her to open it. She was so surprised and her poor heart was bursting out of her chest (as was mine). I opened up the box with her wedding band in it and she said “Yes”.
