Flight
There are several ways to get to MV, but this is definitely the easiest. If you book flights in advance, you can generally find them for a good price. More and more flights are being released directly to the island, with airlines including American, Delta, and JetBlue. Connections can be found through Washington DC, New York, and Boston. Drive to downtown Oak Bluffs: 15 minutes Drive to downtown Edgartown: 10 minutes
Flight
If you fly into Boston, you will have to take a bus or rent a car from Boston to Woods Hole (approx two hours) and then get the ferry to the island (45 minutes). The bus will pick you up at the airport in baggage claim and take you directly to the ferry station - with a couple of stops along the way. We have taken it many times, it is easy and goes by fast.
Travel Note
If are flying into Boston Logan Airport and would like to take the bus, Peter Pan Bus Lines is who we recommend. You will take the bus to Woods Hole, where you pick up the ferry. Tickets are around $40 and during September generally do not need to be booked well in advance. You can pick the bus up at baggage claim. The busses run throughout the day - if you have flight issues / delays, you can get the next bus. The busses are pretty prompt with their departure times. Please note, the last bus you can take to catch a ferry is the 6:00pm bus. While there is a 9:00pm bus, ferries will no longer be running when you get to your final bus destination, Woods Hole. If you are looking to spend some time in Boston after flying in, you can also pick up the bus from South Station. This is in downtown Boston and the second stop after Boston Logan. When returning home, the bus can pick you up from the ferry and bring you back to the airport or South Station.
Travel Note
If you are coming to the island anyway besides a flight, you will need to take a ferry. The ferry is picked up in Woods Hole on Cape Cod. You can buy your tickets once you get there or online. Tickets are around $20 round trip. You do not need to book tickets in advance, you can do it day of. The ferry is 45 minutes and will take you into Oak Bluffs or Vineyard Haven. There are taxis at the ferries when you dock. Although you can bring a car on the ferry, we do not recommend it. It is costly and must be booked well in advance. If you arrive to the ferry early, we recommend grabbing a chowder and beer from Landfall. During September, the ferries run everyday from 6am - 9:45pm. If you miss the last ferry in the evening, you are in trouble!
House Or Rental
Renting homes is very popular on Martha's Vineyard, and great if you are traveling in a large group. AirBnB's and VRBO's can be found. We recommend staying in Oak Bluffs or Edgartown. Text Anthony and/or Daniella for questions regarding location - we are happy to share the most ideal places to stay! Our dear friend, Paula Peters, is also a great resource to utilize for home rentals; she works at Sandpiper Rentals. Feel free to reach out to her at paula@sandpiperrental.com or 508-400-0626 and let her know you're attending the wedding.
