about us

we love viking culture, telling our puppies how cute they are, cooking + drinking with Friends on, exploring new food places, snuggling, Oklahoma State and the color orange (because it looks great on everyone), competing with each other in ping pong, EDM, and each other :D he loves: storm chasing, IPAs, being a nerd, playing video games as long as he possibly can, death metal and cowboy boots, sleeping in as long as he possibly can, playing golf really well, golf cart rides, vampire dramas, making his grandmother's fudge for the holidays, watching movies in complete darkness she loves: cooking, being sarcastic, making people happy, dry champagne, attributing human characteristics to the dogs, talking about her dad, traveling, eating while traveling, correcting people's grammar, hip thrusts, any kind of cheesecake, planning things, killer whales

how we met

"just friends!"

Theresa: We worked at Paycom together, with Mat starting about 6 months after me. Back then, the newbies got pranked so we did a little bit of research and just stuck a bunch of photos of excessively large and aggressive trucks in the crappy cubicle we set up for him. That was the extent of my interaction with him for a long, long while..........until he got moved to the desk in front of me. We got to know each other pretty quickly because our team was small. We'd share some work tasks and I "taught" him about Dell Sonicwalls. We'd share snacks from the snack room because I wanted a few nibbles and he could finish the rest off. To me, it was a nice set up at work - having coworkers you like makes the job much better, right? He was ALWAYS insisting that we would be perfect together but I kept ignoring him because all guys say that right? Well, turns out he was totally, perfectly, and always right (about that). I love our story because we got to become best friends before anything else. We get to laugh at each other, we can have conversations about work, we still share snacks, and learn new things about one another every day that add to our version of "perfect". Mat: I had just moved from Stillwater to start my job at Paycom and I didn't know anybody. I was excited to move out of my isolated cubicle to hang out with the cute girl behind me. I thought she was really easy to talk to, and the more we talked the more I realized how much I liked her but she wasn't giving me a chance. But I kept trying. On those snack days I would leave her all of the good pieces from the bag of Gardettos and take the gross rye chips that I told her I liked, I would dehydrate myself waiting for her to finish her water so I could ask her on "water dates", I would bring her crispy M&Ms and Big Kats, try and make sure I got matched up with her in pong pong, and ask her to all types of things just so I could hang out with her more. As you can see my persistence paid off!

the proposal

enraged & engaged

Mat had told me after a few weeks of dating that he would have proposed on day one - but I wasn't ready. This may have come to bite me later because after being ready for *quite* some time, I started wondering if it would ever happen! It was a long Friday - plans had been cancelled/rescheduled/shifted - and I was becoming increasingly annoyed but trying to keep it cool while voicing my frustrations to only Mat and Nada (or so I thought). Work was done early, Mat was golfing with Matt that afternoon, I'd have plenty of free time - why couldn't I just go to the gym and then meet my girls for happy hour later?? Instead, I "gave up" gym time, sat on the couch eating Oreos and watching 90 day fiancé, and waited. And waited. Did yoga. Waited. ("I could've worked out already!") Begrudgingly got ready, with Nada asking me for pictures via text as evidence that I'd gotten up off of the living room floor and into real clothes. "Sorry I'm running late, be over soon!" "We can just grab drinks at the clubhouse instead!" Once Steph and Cristina finally reached the house, I was SO frustrated but instantly felt terrible because they truly had tough days and mine was just full of my own whining. We sat down for a quick bottle of rose, when Cris informed us that her husband needed a SINGLE Tylenol at the golf course down the road. We got to the course where I was determined to find this big baby with a headache - which means I COMPLETELY missed my soon to be fiancé standing there under a beautiful arch, waiting to thump his knee on the ground to ask me to marry him. After being bumped in the right direction and getting over the shock, our friends came around the corner and sent me into another wave of happy tears. Mat created the perfect storm of chaos and frustration that lead up to the best surprise of my life! I'd like to say it was worth the wait, but I'll also say it definitely tested my patience (ha!) head over to our photos to look at the most perfect proposal!
