Travel Note

Flights

Flights can vary in price, but round-trip flights to Portugal tend to be relatively affordable compared to many other European destinations. For international travel, the "Goldilocks Window" for the best prices is usually 4 to 8 months before the flight. If you book your flight within this window, you should be able to find a reasonably priced round-trip ticket. March is also Portugal’s off-season, which typically means lower prices for both flights and hotels. Flights from Atlanta to Portugal will require a connection, most commonly through Philadelphia, where you’ll transfer to your international flight to Portugal. Layovers are usually short, often around an hour. Guests flying from Atlanta (ATL) to Lisbon land at Humberto Delgado Airport (LIS), also commonly known as Lisbon Airport or Portela Airport. It is the main international gateway for the city. For the cheapest flights, the best travel itinerary will likely be something like: - Depart Atlanta: Wednesday or Thursday (March 3–4) - Return: Monday or Tuesday (March 8–9) This avoids expensive weekend flights and gives you time to adjust to the time zone. Flight Purchase Guidance: - Start watching flights in July 2026 - Buy between August and October 2026 - Expect $550–$750 per person round-trip if you buy at the right time Pro Tips: Purchase your flight on a Tuesday, Wednesday, or Saturday for the cheapest selection of flights. If you purchase at 3-4 AM, you will get the absolute best priced flights. Depart on a Tuesday or Wednesday. Use “incognito mode” or “private mode” in your browser when purchasing for cheapest options. We’re so excited to celebrate with you in Portugal!

Travel Note

Travel from the Airport

Once you arrive at the airport, there are a couple of easy options for getting into the city. The simplest and most convenient option will likely be Uber or Bolt, which are both widely used in Portugal and generally very affordable compared to U.S. rideshare prices. You can request a ride directly from the airport, and it will take you straight to your hotel without needing to navigate public transportation. Another great option is the Lisbon Metro (train), which connects directly to the airport and runs throughout the city. It’s a very efficient and inexpensive way to get around if you’re comfortable navigating public transit. From the airport, you can take the metro into central Lisbon and either walk, transfer lines, or take a short Uber to your final destination. For those who enjoy exploring like seasoned travelers, the metro system is easy to use and a fun way to experience the city like a local.
