Alex and Andrew met on Bumble just a month after Alex moved to Chicago, shortly after some close college friends encouraged her to put herself out there. One of Alex’s Bumble profile prompts asked what “your intro movie montage song would be,” which happened to catch the eye of Andrew, whose background in music and audio engineering made him a prime candidate to answer. He responded with a song by The Cure. Alex is still undecided on what her answer would be, though “Chapel of Love” feels increasingly appropriate. On their first date, Alex and Andrew met at a taco spot near her apartment. Alex, mildly alarmed she was meeting a random man from the internet, told Andrew the taco spot was a few blocks away despite it actually being in her alleyway. On the date, Alex wore alien earrings that also mildly alarmed Andrew, but the two still spent hours talking. As the night ended, Alex hoped the date would not be just a “one time thing” because she felt an immediate connection. The day of their second date was stormy, with severe weather predicted across Chicago. Despite this, Alex took her first solo adventure on the Red and Brown CTA lines to meet Andrew at Ebiken for sushi. As she walked down the stairs at the Irving Park Brown Line stop, she remembers feeling butterflies, and being both nervous and excited for their second date. Crossing the street beneath the tracks, Alex waved at Andrew and quickly admitted she was relieved their first date had not just been a “one time thing.” That night, the two shared sushi and again talked for hours. Just as they were about to part ways, a tornado warning was issued, and Alex deduced that weathering out the storm at Andrew’s nearby apartment was probably safer than waiting on the elevated CTA tracks. Before the night ended, she again told him these incredible dates better not be a fluke. A year and a half later, Alex once again walked down the Irving Park station stairs and crossed the street to meet Andrew beneath the Brown Line tracks outside of Ebiken, the very same spot where they had met for their second date. There, Andrew proposed and reassured Alex that while the dates were never a one time thing, the proposal and marriage absolutely would be.
