Due to it's unique geography, there were once thirteen covered bridges within Montgomery's town limits as recently as the 1940s. Yet with modern requirements, more than half of these wonderful structures were lost. It wasn't until the latter half of the last century that focus shifted to historical preservation. Today there remain six covered bridges within Montgomery, making it the “Covered Bridge Town of the Green Mountains”, and boasting the largest number of covered bridges of any town in the country. We hope you get a chance to visit a few: Hopkins Bridge, 1875 | Route 118 & Hopkins Rd Longley Bridge, 1863 | Route 118 & Longley Bridge Rd Comstock Bridge, 1883 | Comstock Bridge Rd Creamery Bridge, 1883 | Go 2.6 miles on West Hill Rd, then left on Creamery Bridge Rd (Note: West Hill Rd and Hill West Rd are different roads.) There are a number of geocaches hidden around Montgomery and there are even a few on the local trails. We recommend downloading the Geocaching app on your phone and searching for cache locations near you to get started. Geocaching is a fun outdoor activity for kids and adults in which you use a GPS receiver or mobile device and other navigational techniques to hide and seek containers, called geocaches or caches. Participants earn badges for the containers they find.

Journey's End Trail | 1315 Journey's End Rd, Jay | Daylight hours only https://www.trailfinder.info/trails/trail/journey-s-end-trail 1.3 miles 1-way | Easy to moderate | Complete in under 2 hrs | Boots or sneakers (29 min. from venue) A great short trail that goes all the way to the Canadian border. Leads in to the renowned Long Trail that follows the main ridge of the Green Mountains across the state of Vermont. From VT-105, follow North Jay Rd 2.0 miles north to the unpaved Journey’s End Rd opposite a dairy barn and turn left. This rough gravel road leads 1.2 miles west, mostly uphill, to a log landing with plenty of space to park (45.00235deg N, 72.46603degW). We advise parking here and walking to the trailhead. Bear right and descend another 0.1 mile on a narrow road to the trailhead (45.00435deg N, 72.46664deg W). Trucks with high ground clearance only if driving all the way to trailhead, as the road is very rough here. Be sure to sign the log book for trail safety!
