Sydney and Robert met in 2020 while working as Resident Advisors during college. When COVID unexpectedly merged their staffs, Sydney strategically signed up for an on-call shift next to “a cute boy’s” name without actually knowing what he looked like. On April 16, 2020, they met for the first time while completing campus safety rounds together. Robert decided to take the longest route possible, pretending he didn’t know where to go despite having worked in the community the year before, just to spend more time with Sydney. At some point during their shift, Robert casually mentioned he liked watching sunsets from the top of a campus parking garage. The next evening, Sydney brought her dog Adelaide there hoping to “accidentally” run into him. Unfortunately, they ended up sitting on opposite sides of the garage, both too nervous to cross the distance and say hello. After the sunset, both of them gave up and started heading home, each convinced they had missed their chance. Then Robert spotted Sydney outside his apartment grabbing doggy poop bags. Panicking, he jumped on his bike and pretended to casually run into her by the dumpster. He bent down to pet Adelaide, immediately ripped his pants, awkwardly said, “Well, I better be going,” and quickly rode away. Sydney had no idea he ripped his pants. Her only thought was, “Wow… this man is mysterious.” She was hooked. Six years later, they are still making each other laugh, still choosing the longest route possible to spend more time together, and cannot wait to celebrate with all of you.
