Quaking Aspen Campground
This is home base for the week! We will be camped out in the group loop, the first left as soon as you enter the campground.
Pierpoint General Store
~30 min from camp, this is the closest place for ice and other odds & ends
Nelson's Tavern
Open every day 11am-8pm, this is the best place to grab a meal! It is a full service bar and diner ~25 min from camp and in town for anyone staying in Camp Nelson!
Stagg Tree
Beautiful ~1mi walk through Giant Sequoia Grove! The walk starts at the research station Katie stayed at while studying Giant Sequoia mortality. This is also the first grove of Sequoias Erika ever visited!
Trail of 100 Giants
~20 min from camp, easy walk through stunning Sequoia Grove We will be doing this Saturday afternoon if you would like to join us!
Dome Rock
This is a great short hike just down the round from camp with insane views and excellent star-gazing! From Quaking Aspen Campground, drive south for 3.5 miles and turn east off the Western Divide Highway on Forest Route 21S69. Signs for Dome Rock are posted at the intersection.
Natural Waterslides
Hike up a dirt fire road for 3/4 of a mile to enjoy natural waterslides! This one is not recommended for littles or people who struggle with mobility, but looks like a lot of fun if you're down for a short trek!
Needles Point Lookout Trailhead (2.5 miles)
This is a bit longer of a hike (2.5 mi each way) to an insane view! There used to be a fire lookout at the end but it burned down. From camp, drive south for one mile then turn east on Forest Route 21S05. Drive 2.5 miles over this dirt road to the parking area at the trailhead.
Cedar slope brew
Please not they are only open 9am-6pm Fri/Sat and 2-6 on Sun! This is a cute spot down the road from camp for food and coffee
