We met in October of our senior year of college in Santa Barbara. Krista was visiting a high school friend at UC Santa Barbara the same weekend her college friend from San Diego State was visiting his high school friend — who happened to be Alec. All of us ended up going out together, and at the very first bar, we saw each other from across the room. Alec decided the best way to impress Krista was to chug an entire fishbowl margarita — the kind meant for five people to share. He spilled half of it on himself. That was the exact moment she noticed him and had this unexplainable feeling that he was going to be someone important in her life. Later that night, we both went out of our way to sit next to each other at the next bar and started talking about life, ambition, and future plans. What began as fun chemistry quickly turned into something deeper. Krista realized that behind the fishbowl confidence was someone incredibly smart, thoughtful, and driven. After that, we were all in. We lived five hours apart but took turns driving every other weekend. Shortly after we started dating, Krista moved to Barcelona for four months, so our relationship began with transatlantic long distance. It wasn’t easy, but it made us certain. Even crazier? We later realized we had actually met two years earlier at a party during a music festival in 2018. The timing just wasn’t right then. It seems we were meant to find each other twice — and the second time, we didn’t miss it. Now, years later, we’re gathering everyone we love in the South of France.
