Elk Avenue is the heart of downtown Crested Butte, lined with locally loved restaurants, bars, and shops. Many of the buildings date back to the town’s mining roots, and the colorful storefronts make it a fun street to explore.
Hiking
Crested Butte is known for its great hiking, with trails for all levels. September is a beautiful time to get out and explore, with cooler temps and early fall colors. Some local favorites include the Lower Loop, Snodgrass Trail, and the Slate River Trail.
Mountain Biking
If biking is your thing, you’re in the right place. Crested Butte has an incredible trail network and a long history with mountain biking. September is a great time to ride with cooler temps and fewer crowds, whether you’re looking for an easy loop or something a little more adventurous.
Horseback Riding at Fantasy Ranch
For a different way to explore the mountains, Fantasy Ranch offers guided horseback rides along the Snodgrass Trail with beautiful views along the way.
Fishing
Fall is peak fly-fishing season in Crested Butte, known for world-class trout fishing on the Gunnison, Taylor, and East Rivers. September also brings the kokanee salmon run, adding a unique bonus!
Disc Golf
For disc golf fans, Crested Butte has two courses: Big Mine in town and Ten-Three @ CB up by the Red Lady lift.
