If you have a free day on the island, you should DEFINITELY do a boat tour. The tour(s) (there is more than one) takes you round the different beaches on the island, some of which are inaccessible by other means, and you can walk on the beach/have a paddle in the sea/stay in the boat. A really excellent way to spend a day. Price is about EUR 50 (including light lunch, drinks not included). https://www.diaploustravel.gr/explore-boat-tour/ can be booked in advance.
Castro is the oldest part of the Chora. It is a medieval settlement built to protect the island’s inhabitants from enemy invasions. It is more like a row of guardhouses than a proper castle, a style very common in the Cyclades. It has been inhabited continuously since its establishment. Its northern side is built at the edge of a cliff. The houses, some of which are over one thousand years old, are inhabited and maintained in good condition. Originally the capital of Folegandros (Chora) was confined inside the borders of the Castro for protection.
Built in 1919, the lighthouse originally used a fuse, then a diesel & steam mechanism, and has been operating on solar power since 1986. You can reach the lighthouse on foot, either from Livadaki (15′) or from Ano Meria (60′).
Where the wedding will be. It is built on a rock above Chora, probably on the site of an ancient temple, building materials from which were used for its construction. You can see ancient inscriptions, sculptures and statue bases in the courtyard and the interior of the church. The view from the church is outstanding! Worth the walk - best for sunrise/sunset!
