Meet The Bride

A Small-Town Colorado Girl

I grew up in Colorado and never thought I'd leave it. I am the second oldest of six kids and grew up in the Mormon Faith. I got my Bachelors of Arts Degree from the University of Northern Colorado in Theatre Arts with an emphasis in Secondary Education. I taught theatre for 5 years at Adams City High School in Colorado. When I was turning 30 I decided to take myself on my dream vacation, a Mediterranean Cruise to Barcelona, Florence, Rome, Athens, Venice and some other beautiful ports. I asked my wonderful friend, Guizella Rocabado, to please please please come with me, and she did. This cruise changed my life when my friend and I were at the French Bistro on our cruise ship. An older gay couple was seated next to us. The man across from me ordered his food, then looked at me, then at his partner, then at me again, and started a conversation. We discovered all four of us were educators, and I mentioned I was looking for another position. The man seated next to me told me to apply in Reno and I asked him what it was like in Reno. The man revealed he was raised right up the road from where I was currently teaching and said Reno was like Golden, a nearby city that I loved. I returned home almost a week later and checked to see if there was a theatre position open in the district. I was surprised that there was, and I applied and was soon hired to teach full time theatre at Spanish Springs High School in Sparks. God guided me to find a place to live in less than a week despite the crazy housing shortage we're experiencing in Reno, and put me on a path that would soon cross with Keith's. When I told my Sister-in-law, Meagan, that I was hired and moving, she predicted I would meet the love of my life in Nevada. She was right.

Meet the Groom

A Nevada Country Boy

I was born and raised in Fallon Nevada and grew up an only child to two wonderful parents. After graduating high school in 2009, I attended Weber State University in Ogden, UT where I was introduced to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. After joining the church I went on a mission to St Louis, MO. Upon returning, I eventually obtained my Commercial Drivers License. I am excited to start flight school in the near future to get my commercial pilots license and am starting work at Atlantic Aviation to spend more time and learn more about planes. I am glad that I finally figured out what I am passionate about and how to make a career out of it. I met Ashley at church when our bishop introduced us and we fell in love shortly after that. I am looking forward to whatever the future holds with her and my career.

How We Met: Her side of the story

A Meddling Matchmaker

One fine Sunday, I was doing my calling as Ward Chorister (I conducted the music during Sacrament Meeting) when Bishop Prioux turned around in his seat and asked me, "Do you see that guy in the green tie that just came in? Would you go on a date with him?" I looked and saw the guy Bishop was referring to. I'd had my eye on him already. So I affirmed that I would. Bishop turned back around in his seat and said, "Imma tell 'im." That evening, I was at home and got a text message that said, "Hey Ashley it's Keith Adams. Bishop said I should say hi to you." True to his word, after church, Bishop had pulled Keith into his office and told 'im. The next day I was blessed with a snow day and Keith called me while he worked on his route for FedEx. The rest of that week we called and texted as often as we could and then had our first date that Saturday.

The Proposal

how he popped the question

On October 8th, I came home from work and Keith had dinner cooking in the crock pot. He mentioned that he wanted to have a romantic dinner on the patio, but it was too cold. So we decided instead to have a picnic in the living room. Keith laid out a blanket on the floor and lit some candles. We ate dinner and when we were done, Keith took my plate to the sink. Then he came back and knelt down and said, "Ashley, I should have done this a long time ago. Will you marry me?" We hugged and kissed and I said yes. In his defense Keith had been trying to find the right time to ask me for a while. He tried to take me stargazing (one of our favorite dates) but it was cloudy. Then he took me to get ice cream where we had our first date, but the ice cream machine was broken. There were some other plans that didn't work out too, but this was perfect.
