There is a wedding the day after ours, so many rooms are currently on hold. Closer to the wedding any unbooked rooms will be released. Based on weddings we have attended in Ireland, we do expect plenty of rooms to be released and available. We will email guests when this is the case. If for some reason there aren't enough rooms, we have transportation arranged for 6 PM after the After Party to take guests back to Dundalk.
The dogs featured on our invitations are Irish Wolfhounds. This breed of dog is the tallest in the world, and they symbolize ancient Irish nobility and integrity. It just so happens that Cabra Castle is famous for having Irish Wolfhounds and incorporating them into special events and weddings. They currently have two dogs named Oscar and Claddagh and if you're attending the reception in Ireland, you may get lucky enough to meet these two gentle giants.
Yes! Kids are welcome at both events.
Generally speaking, the Irish terminology “double room” means that the room is suited to a couple. A “twin room” is typically 2 twin beds. A “family room” is normally a queen/full and a twin bed. We asked Cabra and their double rooms are queen sized beds.
Cabra Castle is in Co. Cavan, which is approximately an hour from the Dublin Airport. This is about 10 minutes from where Sarah's mother grew up and most of her family lives!
Of course! The more the merrier. We are so excited to be able to celebrate on both sides of the Atlantic so that we can include everyone!
Ireland is 5 hours ahead of EST.
No! These events are totally optional and are planned to welcome you to the local town in Ireland. We fully understand that most people will be traveling prior to the wedding or arriving on different days.
It depends. We will be actively scouting the best prices for our guests and will send out emails when we feel like prices are ideal. While in the off season, you can get flights for as cheap as $500, the pandemic may have increased flight costs. For budgeting purposes, we would say anywhere from $500-$900 but hope to find flights on the low end of that range.
We know that this will be the case for some of our guests, which is why we decided to do our wedding over Memorial Day Weekend. The tightest timeline we would suggest would require 3 days of PTO (Wed, Thurs, and Friday of the wedding week), meaning a Tuesday night flight out and a Monday morning flight back. We hope whoever is able can join us the weekend before, as we will be hosting activities and events the entire week, however we know this will not work for everyone.
So many Irish people settled in Havertown. In a 2013 survey, 1 in 4 Havertown residents noted "irish" as their first reported ancestry.
Yes! Sarah's mom is one of eight siblings and the only one to move abroad. Sarah spent a lot of time in Ireland as a child and is close with her many cousins.
Your presence is our present. We know that traveling to Ireland is costly, so we do not expect additional gifts. However, if you would like to get us something please see the registry tab which connects to the Zola registry.
Yes! Our reception ballroom will be open until 2 AM. At this point, if you would like to continue the party you can head to the Derby Bar until 4 AM (overnight guests only).
It depends on your comfort level and your travel plans. Do you need to rent one? No. Ireland is known for their excellent public transportation and we are coordinating coach buses for the major events. If you choose to rent a car, please look into your insurance coverage and do your research ahead of time. While major roadways in Ireland are similar to highways in the US, the smaller country roads are very narrow and windy. Also keep in mind you will drive on the left side of the road.
While Cabra Castle is beautiful, it is in a more rural location. Dundalk is the closest major town with access to trains and buses, and it has great walkability, nightlife, and things to do.
We will be sending out an email that shows where you can park. We highly suggest you carpool to reduce the impact to our neighbors, however there is plenty of overflow parking outside of the neighborhood.
