Tessa and Alan met during Tessa’s first week at UCLA. Seated patiently in the lobby at UCLA Student Media, Tessa watched as an eager third-year student burst through the doors, asking where the Ha’Am orientation was. Tessa followed him into a meet-and-greet with the Editor-in-Chief, where they were both enlisted as writers for the Jewish student newsmagazine. At the first official staff meeting, Tessa sat down next to Alan, recognizing him from the orientation, and was randomly assigned to peer edit his first article. The two bonded over their love of writing, and Alan helped Tessa navigate the world of being an English major (another common interest). They built their friendship during a year of late nights spent editing each other’s articles and essays, and debating the proper placement of commas. On the one year anniversary of their friendship, Alan asked Tessa out and the love story that their friends had been eagerly anticipating officially began. Fast-forward 6.5 years. Tessa and Alan live together in San Francisco, both work at Wells Fargo (in different departments, don’t worry), and enjoy traveling and hosting their friends for Shabbat dinners. One day after work, Alan enticed Tessa to take a walk around Stow Lake in Golden Gate Park, one of their favorite haunts. On their second lap around the lake, Alan led Tessa to a bench overlooking the water, where he dropped down on one knee and proposed. Ever the planner, Alan added one final surprise on top, telling Tessa, “Pack your bags, we’re going to Napa to celebrate for the weekend!” Overjoyed and excited for their future together, Tessa and Alan can’t wait to celebrate with all of you!
