In December of 2014, Teddy and Keith were both visiting their homes for the holidays. Teddy was living in Los Angeles, CA at the time and happy to be home in Chicago, IL reconnecting with friends and family. Keith who was attending grad school in Lincoln, NE was home in NYC enjoying a break from school. One night, Teddy went out with friends in the Andersonville neighborhood in Chicago. They took a picture and Teddy posted it to Facebook. Keith, being the introverted extrovert he is, was hiding away in his sister's bedroom scrolling through Facebook when he saw Teddy's photo; it showed up on his timeline because Teddy had tagged their mutual friends. Keith "liked" the photo and Teddy was subsequently notified of a stranger liking his pics. He sent Keith a friend request after noticing how many friends they had in common. Keith, who typically didn't accept friend requests from people he hadn't met in person, accepted the friend request because he thought Teddy was cute. When Teddy saw the accepted friend request, he poked Keith on Facebook and Keith, being the pleasant human he is, responded with a message that said "I forget that poking is still a thing on Facebook, lol." Facebook messages turned into text messages and then Facetime. Before you knew it, Teddy was living his pretty woman fantasy when Keith flew him out from L.A. to, checks notes, Lincoln, NE. They spent a great weekend together and made plans for the next time they'd hang out: Keith's Spring Break. They agreed that if Spring Break went well they'd try a long-distance relationship and that's exactly what happened. Teddy supported Keith as he went on the job hunt for his post-grad school job and Keith supported Teddy as he dipped his toes into real estate/property management. After speaking about eventually moving to the same city and giving an in-person relationship a shot, they decided to start that journey in Minneapolis, MN where Keith landed after grad school. Moving to the Twin Cities brought them together and Teddy closer to family in Chicago. The next few years were spent building a life together. Visiting and meeting each other's families in the places we call home, Chicago and NYC. We grew our family with the closest thing to grandkids our parents can expect: Sterling and Onyx (R.I.P our Baby). We found our way to Chicago where the past few years have treated us kindly even as the world was on fire. We made friends and built a community, we got engaged, we bought a home, and we've elevated in our professional lives. We're excited for this next step and the opportunity to celebrate with our loved ones, just a small collective of our village.
