You don't know how to get to France? It's okay, we gotchu!

Flight

CDG. ORY, or BOD

CDG is by far your best, biggest airport option, with direct flights from most major U.S. cities ORY is the smaller Paris airport, but has amazing options from the East Coast BOD is the closest airport to the chateau (Bordeaux is also where we recommend renting your car) so if you are planning on coming straight to the wedding, the extra flight to BOD may save you time vs. taking the train from Paris

Travel Note

Getting Here: The Deets

In April, Jane and I visited the wedding venue. Here's an in-depth guide on getting from Paris to Bordeaux, and from Bordeaux to the wedding venue. We know not everyone will take this route, but a lot of what we experienced will apply to you, so please read it thoroughly. If you still have questions about getting here after reading this, leave a comment, or please direct them to Mo. (A 10-minute read)

Rental Car

Car Rental

We absolutely recommend renting a car for the week, as some days will be designed around exploring the French countryside on your own. The two closest, bigger towns are Bordeaux and Limoges - Bordeaux being bigger with more rental options/better prices. Most meals will be provided (all breakfasts for those staying in chateau, 3 dinners), but you may want to go into town on your own to grab coffee or lunch. Additionally, getting to the chateau from the airport or train station will require a car (taxis are available, if you prefer). There are plenty of parking spaces on sight, but if you want to rent with a few other folks, it's definitely a good money saver! Tip: we found renting from the U.S. sites of popular car rental companies like Hertz/Enterprise/Avis yielded a lot more (and cheaper) options vs. their European sites. Our automatic transmission rental was ~250 for the week.

House Or Rental

Airbnb

If you were unable to commit to staying in the house, or are planning on traveling with children: there are tons of amazing Airbnbs in the Bourdeilles area, as well as some very cute B&B's! We would love to have you come hang at the chateau as much as possible, including dinners and the post wedding brunch! Please let us know if you have any questions, or if we can help you in booking your accommodations in anyway

Places to Stay

Link was given to us by the chateau owners when we asked for recommendations for places to stay. Folks staying outside the chateau - this is for you! (Le Moulin de l'Abbaye is possibly the cutest hotel I've ever seen AND has it's very own Michelin starred restaurant) This site also has a ton of great recs for exploring nearby castles and historic sites!
