Getting there
Playas de Rosarito is in Baja California, Mexico and is approximately 25 miles south of the US border from San Diego. The closest airports are San Diego (SAN) and Tijuana (TIJ). If you are driving across, please make sure to get Mexico insurance on your car (www.bajabound.com). If you are interested in shuttle options, please see below options and reference FAQs for more info. Passports are required to enter Mexico, so please make sure to have yours with you! Global Entry makes crossing back into the US very fast - the link to apply is in the FAQ.

Driving directions from San Diego
Driving directions: In San Diego take I-5 or I-805 South – they merge and end at the San Ysidro border crossing into Mexico. Set your GPS in Google Maps for Las Gaviotas. Cross through the border and through Mexican customs (pro tip – roll down all your windows and don’t make eye contact with the customs agents to minimize the chance of being pulled into secondary). Once you pass through Customs, get into the furthest right-hand lane (there will be multiple lanes merging together – be patient). You will see a ramp on the right hand side as you exit customs– take the ramp and stay in the right-hand lane. You will cross over the Tijuana river and then up a steep ramp to get onto the Viaducto (the sign will say To Playas). You will take this elevated roadway thru a tunnel and then be merged on the roadway headed to Rosarito. Once on this roadway, stay in the left-hand lane and you will be directed to Rosarito and Ensenada. You will pass through a toll booth (it only takes cash – USD or Pesos – have $5 bills available to pay the toll). You will stay on this road (it is called the Cuota, or toll road) until you get to Rosarito. It is a beautiful drive and has great views of the Pacific Ocean. Your GPS will likely tell you to get off in Popotla, which you can do and follow your GPS instructions to go through the town of Popotla to get to Las Gaviotas. We prefer to stay on the Cuota and keep going south rather than exiting. You will go through a second toll booth just south of Popotla (again, only cash and have a $5 bill available). After passing through the second toll booth, drive another 7.5 miles until you seen an exit for Puerto Nuevo. Take this exit and then take a right-hand turn at the bottom of the ramp. You will now be heading north on the “Libre” or free road. Take this road for about 1 mile and you will see a left-hand turn for Las Gaviotas.
