Travel Note
1800s: Originally a stagecoach stop and trading post, Twenty Mile House got its name from being 20 miles between Beckworth and Quincy. It became a key stop on the Reno-Quincy route, offering travelers rest, supplies, and a place to refresh their horses. The Langhorst Brothers expanded it into a general store, post office, and hotel, ensuring no traveler was ever turned away. 1900s: The arrival of the Western Pacific Railroad in 1909 brought more visitors—and even outlaws. In 1912, the post office was robbed at gunpoint for $200 (about $5,000 today). By the 1940s, Robert Gage and his family frequented the property, and in 1976, Rob and Barbara Gage purchased the 200-acre estate as a summer retreat. 1991-Today: In 1991, Barbara turned it into a bed-and-breakfast, and in 2009, her son Kevin and his wife Karen transformed it into the beloved wedding venue it is today.
