Travel Note
Mammoth Lakes has tons of lodging options — from camping under the stars to comfy hotel rooms. Summer is a super popular time here, so book as early as possible whether you’re snagging a campsite or hotel room! Best Way to Experience It: Go Camping! If you’re into fresh mountain air, starry nights, and cozy campfires, we highly recommend camping during your visit — it’s one of the best ways to soak in the Eastern Sierra vibes! Mammoth and the surrounding forests have lots of great options, from lakeside spots to shaded forest sites. Top Campgrounds to Check Out: There are many beautiful lakeside campgrounds right in the Lakes Basin. A couple of our favorites include: Twin Lakes Campground, Lake Mary Campground, and Coldwater Campground. Most sites in the Lakes Basin and forest campgrounds require reservations via Recreation.gov (they fill up fast in July–September), and some places are first-come, first-served, so planning ahead is key! If you're looking to camp in town, New Shady Rest Campground & Old Shady Rest Campground are centrally located. Convict Lake Campground is another stunning spot just south of town. Here are a few of our hotel recommendations: Limelight Hotel- A new hotel in Mammoth known for it's fresh and clean rooms and great location. Please contact Tatum for room block information. Outbound Mammoth- Newly renovated hotel in the center of town. Juniper Springs Resort – Spacious suites if you’re traveling with family. Tamarack Lodge & Resort – Rustic lodge style with great location near Twin Lakes. The Village Lodge Mammoth – Highly rated with awesome amenities. Airbnbs and nightly condo rentals are also options that are usually centrally located in town. Make sure to book early for the best deals, especially during the summer months!
