Matt and Carly met at none other than Ten Mile Lake in 2011. Carly grew up going to this lake house in Northern Minnesota with her family every summer. One of her friends she met up at the lake, Martin Jensen (whom her entire family referred to as The Ohio Boy) started bringing Matt up to the lake with him in 2010. Matt rode by Carly's cabin one day in Martin's boat and she was reading on her swim platform by her dock and he was instantly intrigued. A direct quote from Matt: "I was in awe by her beauty and blown away by her charisma." Carly immediately had a crush on Matt, as did all of the women in Carly's family of course (how could we not?) Matt and Carly finally hit it off one summer and couldn't stay away from each other after that. Carly visited Matt that following October when they were both in college. They continued to visit each other for the remaining years of college, having to fly almost every time. Carly still has all of the plane tickets from this time in their lives.

Matt proposed to Carly at Ten Mile Lake on July 2, 2021. He got the Great Eight (Carly's parents, siblings, and aunt and uncle) out on the pontoon boat for a happy hour cruise before going out to eat that night. With the help of Carly's brother and sister-in-law,  Matt managed to get Carly alone at the front of the boat. He gave the speech of his life (Carly doesn't remember any of it) and got down on one knee. His speech began with him telling her about how they first met and although she quickly tried to refute a detail in his timeline, the following loving, emotional words grabbed her complete attention. He got down on one knee and she got down with him so they were both crouching tigers committing to spend their lives together, with some shiny finger candy to top it all off. If you haven't seen the video, text M or C and they will send it to you.
