How we met: The Brides Side

FROM PROM TO THE PULPIT

I really don't have this long drawn out fairytale story of how he swept me off my feet (LOL). Jonah and I attended the same high school, but we didn't meet until my junior year; he was a senior. I remember I was enrolled in Mr. Mass's Art class. He walked into the room and asked one of my male classmates about me. I cant remember if we exchanged numbers then or later, but I do vividly remember talking to him around prom season. I had no intentions on attending prom. Little did I know, Jonah had plans for me. Till this day, I wonder if I was his lil rebound since he supposedly already had a lil date that he "dropped” just before asking me. I was never really worried about her and frankly didn’t care, maybe I did feel slightly bad. Oh well, I was going to prom with a senior!!!!! Of course I said yes! A year after Jonah graduated, I graduated and moved to Memphis to attend college. We never completely stopped communicating. Occassionally, we would hangout when I returned home for breaks. He basically did his thing and I did mine, but we always remained good friends no matter the relationships we were in. Fast forward several years. Jonah and I are on our first vacation together. We were on the beach in Destin, FL and saw a couple getting married. It was one of the most beautiful sights ever, and it was that moment that I knew I wanted sand and water to be apart of my wedding day. I never really wanted a traditional church wedding and had always envisioned an outdoor scenary for my nuptials, so the beach wasn’t a far leap. Here we are, nearly 6 years later, prepared to say WE DO with our toes in the sand!!! Maybe I was wrong……maybe this is my fairytale after all! Till death do us part bae, and I WILL AWAYS CHOOSE YOU, JONAH!!!

How we met: The Grooms side

I was so nervous around her.

So, it was my senior year of High School, and I was an office worker (which basically means I had a free pass to skip class). I was just making my rounds, to holla at all my guys, when I walked into my guy Nava’s class. I think it was an art class because I remember the teacher being super laid back. I walked in and was like dang who is that? Keep in mind, I was an 18 year old young man at the time. I can’t share everything that I was thinking, but I can say that it was definitely her beauty that first got my attention. Then I noticed that she had a piercing in her lip. Mannn that was so cute and sexy and such a turn on to me. I just remember it was an instant attraction that came with feelings I had NEVER had for any other girl. I asked Nava who she was. Then I gave her my number and let her hit me up. It was around prom time, and I had to have her! No questions asked! And I got her, but prom was just the beginning. Bae use to come over after school sometimes and pull up in that purple whip. We would chill before she went to work at Burger King. That’s when I found out bae had beauty AND brains. Man, I used to be so nervous around her, but I loved everything about her (and still do). I ain’t gone lie, I was sad when she left me and moved to Memphis for college. I thought I’d never have a real chance with her once she left. We always kept in touch tho……..she’d pull up and see me sometimes on her breaks from school. I love her lil mean self. She keeps me grounded, she loves our kids, and she’s an amazing mom and partner! She’s also my best friend! She’s def a keeper! I love u bae and I can’t wait to see your beautiful self walk down that isle!

The proposal

IT'S YOUR BIRTHDAY!!!

So, of course Jonah and I had discussed marriage several times before the proposal. Jonah knew that if he ever proposed I wanted it to be on a random day. He knows I HATE HOLIDAY PROPOSALS. Anyway, it was my 30th birthday, and we decided to rent a private yacht on the lake since I was 8 months pregnant and didn’t want to waddle around the beach and be to far away from home. The day was amazing and the weather was absolutely perfect. The vibes between everyone was on point, and we were all on the boat chilling in our all white and having a good time. There was a deckmate on board that would assist us if we needed anything. She requested to gather everyone for a "meeting." We came together, and all I remember hearing was Jagged Edge faintly playing in the background. Jonah walked up to me and got down on one knee. My eyes filled with tears, and my 8 month pregnant self just zoned out. It's like the world literally stopped for a few minutes and everyone had vanished except for me and my honey. Of course, I said yes!!!! I was so happy, and I was grateful to be surrounded by the people I love the most!!! I love you forever babe!!! Thank you for choosing me to be your forever!
