How We Met

The first night of Deakin University's O-WEEK - March 2014. Tash and Mark were lined up to visit the beloved Homehouse Nightclub in Geelong, and Aaron was standing in the queue behind. As it turned out the three were all starting their first semester of Commerce/Law, and because Aaron went to the club on his own to make friends, they had him tag along for the night on the dancefloor. Cut to the next morning, Tash and Mark spotted him waiting outside their first class, Accounting 101. They felt bad seeing him standing alone so they walked over so he had a familiar face, despite Aaron really not wanting to hang out. As it turned out, they had all the same classes and a subject that required a group assignment of 3 people. So love blossomed throughout the semester as they geeked out about books and movies, and Tash contributed about 15% towards that entire assignment.

The Proposal

Many of you will have heard this story before. Aaron decided to propose to Natasha sometime in late 2018. The ring hunting commenced, and an elaborate proposal scheme was beginning to form. Unfortunately, online advertisement spam was the enemy and Natasha quickly started to see ads for rings on Instagram and YouTube. The whole plan was effectively foiled within three weeks. Natasha was quite smug about her success and the words "you can't hide anything from me" were used repeatedly. This is where the proposal idea was born. Friends were contacted, many favours were asked for and a number of people put a lot of effort into delivering the perfect proposal. Fast forward to April 20, 2019. Natasha and Aaron got immaculately dressed up to go to an uncle's 60th birthday with a cocktail theme. Upon entering the venue there was a beautiful pathway of rose petals curtailed by hundreds of candles on the floor. It took Natasha a long time to realise this was a proposal as Aaron fumbled through his pockets and nervously produced a ring. When she finally realised tears began to flow and the pair looked around for a tissue or napkin. The only thing that was not perfectly planned out! Nonetheless time was of the essence. Tears and all, Natasha was dragged out to a corridor leading to the beer garden, her mind was still racing, expecting a romantic dinner to be waiting for her. On the other side of the door friends and family awaited, shouting and screaming in congratulations. And of course, the night ended in true Sutton-Walshe fashion with a dance and a kebab.
