Travel Note
CONSIDER MAKING IT A VACATION! We know this is not the easiest place to travel to (and not the cheapest either)! But it is one of the most beautiful places in the country and a great spot to vacation. Acadia National Park offers endless hikes and sights while the surrounding harbor villages offer fantastic restaurants and activities. While there are plenty of options for staying 2 or 3 nights, most rentals offer discounts for staying over 5 nights, which adds to the appeal of extending your stay. We (Susan and Chris) will be in town from June 1st-16th so if you are doing an extended stay, let us know so we can get extra time with you! CONSIDER SHARING A BIG HOUSE! One of the most cost-effective ways to stay on MDI is to rent a large house with a group. There are a lot of amazing properties for rent on the island that are surprisingly affordable if you break down the price by bedroom per night. House rentals are easier to come by for weekly rentals but in June you may be able to find exceptions. Rentals can be found through Airbnb, VRBO or through the realtors listed below. *Interested but don't have a group? Let us know and we'll try to connect you to other guests.
Flight
BANGOR INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT. This is the closest major airport to the island - about an hour drive. HANCOCK COUNTY - BAR HARBOR AIRPORT. This very small airport is the closest to the island (about a 20 minute drive), but note that flight options are very limited. Most flights come direct from Boston. PORTLAND INTERNATIONAL JETPORT. About a 2-3 hour drive to the island. BOSTON LOGAN. About a 4.5 hour drive to the island.
House Or Rental
Airbnb and VRBO are great resources for finding house rentals on the island. We recommend searching for places on the "quietside" of the island, including Southwest Harbor, Tremont, Bass Harbor, and Seal Cove. This is a great option for those looking for a luxury/upscale stay. It is walking distance to Main St. in Southwest Harbor and is absolutely beautiful.

Harbour Cottage Inn is another great B&B right off Main St. in Southwest Harbor. We recommend getting a drink and small bites on the deck at the Bowsprit Bar.
