What is Mehndi Ceremony? It's a joyful pre-wedding tradition in Indian culture where the bride has intricate henna designs applied to her hands and feet. But it's not just about pretty patterns - mehndi has been part of wedding celebrations for thousands of years! Traditionally, henna is believed to bring good luck, love, and happiness to the couple. We will have a henna artist present, and family and friends who attend are welcome to get henna applied as well.
3:00 pm - 6:00 pm
The Haldi (turmeric) ceremony, in which a paste of turmeric is applied to the skin of the bride and groom, gives them a lovely pre-wedding glow. This is followed by the Choora (bangles) ceremony, which involves the blessing, purification, and application of the bride’s wedding bangles by her family as she prepares for her upcoming wedding.
6:30 pm - 11:59 pm
Let’s light up the night! Jaggo is a lively Punjabi tradition where family and friends come together to dance, sing, and celebrate the upcoming wedding.
11:00 am - 3:00 pm
The Anand Karaj is the Sikh wedding ceremony. During this beautiful tradition, a Babaji (a religious leader similar to a pastor) reads from the Guru Granth Sahib Ji, the holy scripture of Sikhism. As part of the ceremony, the couple completes four lavaan, walking in a circle around the Guru Granth Sahib Ji. Each round represents a deeper commitment to living a life of love, spirituality, and devotion to one another and to God. It’s a moment that reflects not just their union, but their shared values of compassion, equality, and community. Following the ceremony is the Langar, a traditional meal served to all guests. Guests attending the Anand Karaj must cover their heads upon entering the Sikh temple. Shoes must be removed before entering the prayer space, so slip-on footwear is recommended for convenience. Seating will be on the floor in traditional style, though chairs will be available for elders and anyone who may need them.
5:15 pm - 11:59 pm
The ceremony will begin promptly at 5:15 PM. Amari and Sunny will celebrate their union once again in the American cultural tradition of exchanging wedding vows. After the ceremony, please join us for cocktail hour in the gardens, where you can enjoy cocktails and light bites as we toast to the evening ahead. Then we will head into the reception, where we will celebrate with dinner, drinks, and dancing late into the night.
