All-day hangout spot that's a combination coffee shop, taqueria and bar. You really can’t get any more Austin than Cosmic. Very vibey, very fun. Settle in and people-watch.

Everyone should get their own order or two of the saudero tacos. It's tough to get prime time reservations, but easy to slide in at the bar or table for a late dinner.

Local institution that's quintessential Austin and has yummy drinks. The frozen Irish coffee is addictive.

Pro tip: order ahead for pickup, bc the line can get crazy. Our favorite is the miso brown sugar latte.

Birdie's
Recently won the 2023 Food + Wine Restaurant of the Year award. Really delicious elevated wine bar with excellent food and natural wine. Interesting concept: fine dining but order at the counter. We've loved everything that we've had here.
Kinfolk Lounge & Library
Make a reservation in advance for this small speakeasy below Moonshine Grill. Very atmospheric, with strong, well-crafted drinks.

Downtown live music venue in the middle of 6th street (free/no cover)
KG BBQ
Egyptian-style BBQ food truck that has gotten a ton of press recently. Shares space with Oddwood Brewing. Available on Grubhub, as one of the very few good BBQ places that are on a food delivery app.
Rosita's Al Pastor
Excellent late-night taco option. Get the alambre, campechana and al pastor on flour tortillas.
The Continental Club
Award-winning live music club that's been recognized by the city as a historic landmark
Terry Black's Barbecue
Local mainstay that's reliably good. They're the only BBQ joint we know of that's open daily (most close on Monday/Tuesday) and rarely run out of meat. They know what they're doing, so the long moves quickly. Get the jalapeño cheddar sausage and the giant beef rib.
Leroy and Lewis Barbecue
BBQ food truck. Everything is good, but the smoked brisket burger will change your life. Located at the original Cosmic Coffee & Beer location.
Lady Bird Lake
And if you need to balance out the eating and drinking, there are 10 miles of interconnected lakefront trails easily accessible from downtown and the east side – choose your own walking/running/biking adventure!
