How We Met - Written by Sydney

Trevor liked one of my photos on Hinge (without a comment or message), so naturally, I did a deep dive on his profile. I definitely liked what I saw, but since he didn’t make the first move, I had to. My grand opening line? A simple “hey there.” Luckily, he replied quickly, and before long, we made plans to meet for coffee at J.L. Patisserie. Funny enough, neither of us even drinks coffee. I convinced him to order a chai, which he then asked the barista to “recommend.” (For the record, Trevor still does this today—and almost always orders the opposite of what they suggest.) When his name was called, Trevor returned with two drinks—one clearly mine and another that looked nothing like what he ordered. Not knowing any better, he just played it cool. We both tried it and it was absolutely terrible. Sure enough, another “Trevor” was called a few minutes later, and we realized he had stolen someone else’s drink. We couldn’t stop laughing, and ended up talking for nearly two hours. I had a nail appointment scheduled afterward as a built-in “exit plan” (just in case), and I was genuinely bummed to leave. He was a catch right from the start; and smooth too, because before we even said goodbye, he had already lined up our second date just a few days later. And now here we are!

I had just moved down to Arizona for school. I didn’t know anyone in the area. Eventually, I saw the most beautiful girl with stunning blue eyes on an online dating app. I hearted her profile immediately, hoping for a miracle…. Not too long later, I saw that we were a match! While I was trying to build up the courage to message her, she took the initiative and sent me the most beautiful messages I have ever received: “Hey there!” After some small talk, I realized that she wasn’t just cute, she was driven, smart, and funny. I knew that this was someone that I wanted to get to know better. I took a chance and asked her out on a date! Once again, she said yes! After I pinched myself just to make sure I wasn’t dreaming, we made plans to go a coffee shop named JL Patisserie on September 23rd 2023. Once we got there, after accidentally stealing someone else’s drink, we talked for about 5 minutes… but apparently it was over 2 hours. We talked about ourselves, our families, our goals, our hobbies & most importantly, her golden retriever named Moose. As our first date was coming to an end, she mentioned that she would love to go out again. I immediately pulled out my phone to schedule our next date which would end up being bowling and ice cream! And well, the rest is history!
