Steph and Steve met at Mizzou. Steve cast Steph in a ten-minute play he wrote (he did not remember that until she reminded him), she thought he was charming and sweet, but he had a long-term girlfriend and Steph was dating the other Steve in the department. When charming and sweet Steve graduated, he moved to LA. Two years later when Steph graduated, she moved to New York. In 2015, Steph briefly saw Steve in his LA apartment when she was visiting his roommate, Sheldon*. Steve said, “Oh hey,” and that was it. Then in 2021, Fraisia* visited New York right before Steph and her friends were headed to St. Louis for Maddie* and Peter’s* wedding. Fraisia informed Steph and Caitlin* that Steve was living in StL and the girls invited Steve to Maddie and Peter’s afterparty. When Steve showed up, a ruckus ensued and a good time was had by all, followed by the idea that everyone should go back to Steph’s hotel suite to order late-night pizza and keep the party going. Upon arrival, Steph promptly fell asleep on the floor. The next morning she woke up mildly embarrassed and sent Steve a text apologizing and let him know she’d be in town all week in case he was interested in catching up. He was. They made a date for the day after Thanksgiving. Unfortunately, Stephanie’s Grandpa passed away early that morning. Fortunately, her Grandma is very stubborn and jumps at any whisper of a promise for great-grandchildren. She said, “Don’t you cancel your date, it could turn out to be something.” It did. Steph and Steve had a couple more dates, then he drove to New York to visit her for New Year’s Eve and they made it official. Come May, Steve was moving into Steph’s apartment. That following December, as they were prepping to head home for the holidays to meet each other’s families, Steph and Steve made a trip up to Rockefeller Center to see the tree. Steph was reasonably annoyed because there were tourists everywhere and Steve was nervous as hell because he had a secret. Steve suggested they “go over there to watch the ice skaters.” Steph begrudgingly obliged. After a while, Steph turned to say something to Steve and instead blurted out, “ OH, we’re doing this here?!?!” He was down on one knee holding a box tightly in his hands. “Yeah, I thought it would be cute…” he replied, unsure because of her response. “ It is cute, now open the box,” she demanded. He fumbled to open the box and said, “Please, let me do this.” Then they both blacked out while he probably said some really cute things that neither one could remember followed with, “Stephanie Nicole Juergens, will you marry me?” To which she replied, “Yes, I will marry you, now get up!” And here we are. * Please see Wedding Party tab for supporting characters.
