Flight
If you're flying in, below is some information on air transportation. Stewart - SWF. This is the closest at about 30 minutes from Fiskill, NY. It is a smaller airport and is limited in its nonstop flights, so you would most likely have a stopover somewhere and perhaps be a bit more costly flight. For ease of getting here though, you can't beat it. You'll easily be able to grab an Uber from the airport. Westchester - HPN. Slightly smaller than Stewart, and slightly farther away at about 50 minutes from Fishkill. There are not a lot of nonstop flights from places in the US, but they specialize in direct flights from Florida. Albany - ALB. About a 90 minute drive north of Fishkill, this one might be a hidden gem for you. There are not a lot of direct flights from other cities, but Southwest operates out of Albany and you might find more/different options than SWF or HPN. You get to avoid New York City, though you will definitely need to rent a car if coming in here. Major Airports There are the Big Three of New York airports and are all about equally an hour and a half drive from Fishkill, NY. Some more information about each and the pros and cons are below. Newark - EWR Main base of United Airlines. This one is officially in New Jersey and you avoid needing to drive through New York City. LaGuardia - LGA Southwest has a base here. It's not as far deep into Queens as JFK so you avoid some of the traffic and delays. Kennedy - JFK Probably the least convenient as far as travel time, but does have many direct flights from all over the country arriving. If you have a flight into JFK and your flight is cancelled or delayed, there will most likely be another flight leaving soon after. If you fly into Stewart or Westchester we suggest getting an Uber or Lyft. If you fly into one of the Big Three, Uber is still simple, but you'll pay a premium price as drivers won't have a fare to take them back to New York City.
Travel Note
If you do fly into one of the Big Three NYC airports. You'll most likely choose one of three options to get up to Fishkill. 1) Rent a car - Any search engine will give you the best option. Our sample search for a long weekend on Kayak.com comes in at about $50-$60 per day. Keep in mind there are some tolls in and out of NYC to get up to Fishkill so you may need to purchase a toll pass, which in the northeast is called, E-Z Pass. 2) Take an Uber/Lyft or Taxi. - IF you choose to take an Uber directly to Fishkill, we'd estimate about $250 as the driver will have to build in coming back to NYC into to the price. If you can coordinate with additional guests arriving, this might be worth it. 3) Shuttle/subway/or taxi to Grand Central Terminal and then Metro North Train to Fishkill. If you choose Option #3, you will want to travel from any of the airports to Grand Central in Manhattan. *Fun fact, the official name is "Grand Central Terminal" though most everyone refers to it as "Grand Central Station" All Ubers or Taxis from the Big Three will run you between $50-$70. We actually recommend Taxis over Uber as they are plentiful and charge flat rate prices of between $50-$70 depending on the airport. If you decide NOT to taxi or uber to Grand Central Terminal: From Newark Airport: We recommend the Newark Express Bus operated via Coach USA. $18 each way. https://www.coachusa.com/airport-transportation From LaGuardia Airport: There is no direct subway service from LaGuardia to Grand Central, you will need to take the Q70 SBS LaGuardia Link Airport Bus to the subway station. The service takes approximately 12 minutes and costs nothing. From there, you can hop on Line 7 and ride straight to Grand Central for a subway ticket of about $3. From JFK Airport: We highly recommend a taxi especially if you have two or more people. You will need to take the "AirTran" and then a subway transfer to get to Grand Central. https://www.welcomepickups.com/new-york/jfk-to-grand-central/
Train
If you choose to ride paid NYC buses or the subway, you'll need to purchase a "Metro Card" from any of the kiosks in the subway station. Purchase a one way card for a few dollars which is good for one ride per person. It's a paper card that you could then dispose of. It's absolutely possible to get from a NYC airport to Grand Central for $10-$15 or maybe even less. Unless you know your way around NYC public transportation though, (and depending on what time of day or night you arrive), we strongly recommend if you have the means, to take a taxi from the airport to Grand Central and for $50-$70 it's one less thing to think about.
Train
From Grand Central you will want to buy a ticket to either Beacon, New Hamburg, or Poughkeepsie depending on where you are staying. Self serve kiosks at Grand Central are easy to manage. It is approximately a 90 minute train ride to the last three stops on the line. Each is about a five minute ride from each other. Schedule and info here: https://new.mta.info/agency/metro-north-railroad If you stay at one of the suggested hotels we recommend buying a ticket to Beacon to save time and a bit of money. Beacon also does have a taxi stand that is usually staffed. But if you time it right you can order an Uber when you're a few minutes out and limit your wait time once you arrive. The stop at five minutes before Beacon is Cold Spring.
Travel Note
Uber and Lyft are both available around Fishkill, NY and can be fairly easily found and scheduled. Unless you have a strong desire to rent a car or drive around the area (which, we DO think is great! The Hudson Valley in the fall is beautiful!) then ride sharing services are probably your best bet.
