Question

What should we wear to the wedding?

Answer

Formal attire is requested for the wedding. This means a dark suit and tie for men and floor length dresses for women. For the Welcome Party, cocktail attire is requested. This means a suit or a nice blazer with dress pants and a dress shirt for men. For women, a knee-length or midi dress, jumpsuit, or elegant separates like a blouse and skirt or tailored pants. For the Farewell Brunch, the dress code is casual, but please no leggings, sweatpants, t-shirts, etc.

Question

What are quotas (cuotas) when I pay with a credit card?

Answer

When you pay with a credit card, you'll almost always be asked "cuantas cuotas" - this means, "how many payments." The answer you should give is 1. In Colombia, when you purchase something with a credit card, you have the option to be charged in smaller payments at varying intervals. Just say 1 quota and you'll be all set.

Question

What should I pack?

Answer

Expect a high of 70 during the day and a low of 55 at night. Since we'll be in the mountains, definitely bring layers as the temperature will fluctuate throughout the day. Villa de Leyva offers lovely Spring weather most of the year. Short rain showers are also common, but usually pass quickly. Villa de Leyva is an old colonial town with cobblestone streets. We recommend bringing comfortable shoes that are easy to walk in.

Question

What shouldn't I pack?

Answer

While Villa de Leyva is very safe, we recommend leaving all valuables at home. This includes expensive/flashy jewelry, designer purses, or anything you'd be devastated to lose. We also recommend packing a crossbody purse, instead of a shoulder bag, and avoiding backpacks. Villa de Leyva is known to be very safe - but like any tourist destination, pickpocketing can happen.

Question

Is Villa de Leyva safe?

Answer

Villa de Leyva is very safe and has a large, friendly police presence. Like in any tourist destination, be aware of your surroundings, don't be distracted by your phone (especially while walking) and don't wear any valuable or flashy jewelry or accessories. You will feel very safe walking around Villa de Leyva! It's a friendly and welcoming town. At night, stay in well lit streets and don't wander too dar away from major tourist areas.

Question

Is Villa de Leyva walkable?

Answer

Yes! Villa de Leyva is a very walkable town. Most of the streets are cobblestone, so choose footwear accordingly. From our venue, Hotel Duruelo, and from any hotel in town, you can get anywhere you need to go in a short walk. Hotel Duruelo is about 10-12 minutes walking from the center of town.

Question

How do I book private transportation?

Answer

If you would like to take private transportation to/from Villa de Leyva there are fantastic, affordable options. This is great if you're arriving/departing outside of the scheduled pick up times. If you choose to book your own transportation, I recommend this option (https://shorturl.at/3fBfY). They guarantee an English speaking guide and will stop for sightseeing opportunities if you have extra time! This is priced per vehicle (not per person) and is around $168 for groups of 1-3 people, $291 for groups of 4 and $343 for groups of 5-7. These drivers will pick you up at the airport when your flight lands and drive you to your hotel in Villa de Leyva. For trips back to Bogota, you can arrange to be picked up in Villa de Leyva and driven back to Bogota.

Question

What if my flight is delayed or I miss the provided bus?

Answer

If your flight is delayed and you miss the bus: Option 1: book private transportation with DayTrip.com (https://shorturl.at/3fBfY) Often, you can book a same day pick up, but you might have to spend a little time at the airport waiting for the driver. You can get a guaranteed English speaking driver and be picked up at the airport and dropped off at your hotel in Villa de Leya PICK UP LOCATION: El Dorado International Airport DROP OFF: Hospedería y Centro de Convenciones Duruelo, Carrera 3, Villa de Leyva, Boyacá, Colombia Make sure you choose the Villa de Leyva, Boyaca location. There is also a hotel with the same name in Bogota, and you don’t want to be dropped off there. Option 2: try calling an Uber. Sometimes, Ubers will take you all the way to Villa de Leyva. Option 3: Make a reservation at the Courtyard Marriott Bogota Hotel If you can’t get same day transportation to Villa de Leyva on Uber or DayTrip.com, book a night at the Courtyard Marriott Bogota Hotel and spend the night https://www.marriott.com/en-us/hotels/bogcy-courtyard-bogota-airport/overview/ They have a free shuttle from the airport (instructions above) Book transportation for the following day on DayTrip.com from Courtyard Marriott Bogota Hotel to your hotel in Villa de Leyva If you are staying at Hospederia Duruelo (where the wedding is) alert Margaret (802-279-0933) that you are running a day late and she will alert the hotel to change your check-in to the next day If you are staying at another hotel, contact them directly to let them know about the delay

For all the days along the way
