The San Antonio Missions is a National Historical Park and part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site preserving five Spanish Catholic outposts built in the 1700s. Many people choose to rent bicycles and ride to each of the missions and explore. Although not on the trail, the Alamo is one of the San Antonio Missions.
Did you even go to San Antonio if you didn’t go to the famous River Walk? Luckily our wedding venue is just a few short minutes away, so no doubt you’ll wind up here at some point. This is the heart of the city. As the #1 attraction in Texas, the River Walk is full of dining, shopping, and cultural experiences.
The San Antonio Botanical Garden is a top San Antonio attraction that serves as a museum of plants, a tranquil escape, a living classroom, a research and conservation facility, and entertainment venue where art, architecture, music, and theater experiences come to life.
Little Em's Oyster Bar is one of the newest gems to adorn the Southtown Arts District and King William area. It's the first true boutique oyster bar in San Antonio, something akin to what you might find in Los Angeles, Miami or even Paris. Although small inside, they also feature a cozy patio and bar seating outside, complete with umbrellas and heaters (as needed).
Relax under the shade of pecan trees on La Tuna’s outdoor patio with your choice of 40 different beers, seltzers, ciders, and wines along with a full food menu of appetizers, sandwiches, burgers, tacos, and more. Luis’ favorite is the Cheesy Burger, and Steph loves the blackened fish tacos.
Located on the river at The Pearl, La Gloria offers a variety of a la carte options inspired by the states and regions of Mexico. Enjoy a queso flameado, a prickly pear frozen margarita (Stephanie’s favorite) on their patio, and watch the occasional chicken walk by.
Brasserie Mon Chou Chou (French for “sweetie” or “darling”) exemplifies a laid back and comfortable atmosphere inspired by the great brasseries of Paris. This new restaurant highlights French classics with an emphasis on simple, flavorful dishes.
Maverick is one of Steph and Luis' favorite date night spots in San Antonio. As a Texas brasserie, Maverick features a menu that is classically prepared and uses Texas ingredients when possible — most of the fare is cooked over a live wood fire.
La Fonda on Main is the oldest Mexican restaurant in San Antonio and never disappoints with their atmosphere, lush outdoor patio, food, and drink options. Make sure to try the duck (pato) taocs and a cucumber jalapeño margarita.
Il Forno — or “oven” in Italian — serves up decadent pizza with scratch-made mozzarella, fresh veggies and house-cured meats. They have been featured in Food & Wine Magazine's roundup of the best pizza restaurants in every state, earning a spot for Texas.
If you've peeked at the Photos page of our wedding website, this bar my look familiar. Bar 1919 is a prohibition era-inspired speakeasy featuring award-winning cocktails and the largest selection of whiskey in the state of Texas. Stephanie's father, Dave, said they make the best Old Fashioned cocktail he's ever had. Because it's a speakeasy there's no sign out front, but it's underneath Joe Blue's in the Blue Star Arts Complex (the staircase going down will be to your left).
The Esquire Tavern opened in 1933 to celebrate the end of Prohibition and has been a beloved San Antonio watering hole ever since. The Esquire is dark, cool, redolent with history, and serves cold, cold beer, swanky cocktails, and excellent food.
Looking for a good night out? Look no further than the St. Mary's Strip, aka The Strip. The St. Mary's Strip is an entertainment district in Midtown San Antonio that boasts numerous bars, restaurants, clubs, and music venues. There's a little something for everyone. Brass Monkey is a dive bar with a sizeable dance floor and string light-lit patio. They often hold theme nights. Hi-Tones is one of Steph and Luis' favorite bars that is puro San Antonio. Known for fun shots such as paleta and chamoy, Hi-Tones is a funky live-music bar with a vintage look & a range of acts, from rockabilly to punk to Latin fusion. Rumble is an easygoing industrial-style bar restyled from a 1950s gas station that pours beer, wine, and craft cocktails-- plus plenty of outdoor seats. Also on The Strip are Faust Tavern, Squeezebox, Midnight Swim, and Little Death Wine Bar.
