How We Met

The Two Friends Who Took a Chance

Landon and I met in the Summer of 2012 through friends. While we didn't have any interest in anything more than friendship at that time- but we did learn that we both enjoyed going to the local hotspot, Damon's. You could always find us dancing when Bad Ace and Hey Hey Hooligan played. There was even a period of time where I would wing-man for Landon and try to get my friends to date him... Thank God none of them took the bait. :) It was a night in December of 2013 when Landon and I had plans to go out dancing when we eventually ended the night talking about the "what if" between us. We decided to give it a try and see how it went- after all we did not want to ruin our friendship. In April 2014, Landon had surgery on his shoulder...he had recently graduated from CNU, so he moved in with me and my roommates in Richmond. We jumped in head first and kinda shrugged at the situation with the mindset that we would "sink or swim." We moved into our own apartment in May 2015, in Shockoe Bottom, after I graduated from VCU. We continue to live in the same apartment and have grown together as adults- learning to conquer the good and the bad from the very beginning.

The Proposal

Shout It From the Rooftop

The day before the proposal, I was practicing my presentation with my Nurse Clinician Tiffany Lord & Barbara Birmingham. While we were in the FedEx room, the helicopter was leaving the helipad and we watched as it took off. Tiffany asked if I had ever been on the Helipad and I told her no. She mentioned how it would be a good "going away" gift since I was to be leaving the Burn Unit soon to go to the STICU. I agreed and said it would be a really cool gift if she could do that. Then, on this day, while I was sitting at the desk charting some patient baths or something, my Nurse Manager, Jill Jones and Tiffany pointed at me and gestured for me to come to them. When I did, they introduced me to a lady named Suzy, who was in charge of the Helipad and they told me that's where we were going. I was impressed that Tiffany put it together so fast and was stoked to be able to see the Helipad. Suzy talked to us about the Helipad, the rules and regulations, and how to approach a patient when they land. There was even a sign-off form for the "training" that we were doing. When we got up to the 12th floor, Suzy radioed security to make sure they knew we were about to come out. After they gave her the go ahead, she told us we could go out. I opened the door and it was super bright outside from the sun, but it was a beautiful day. I saw a man on the helipad [I assumed we were walking over there for him to give us the do's and don’t’s of the helipad], I also saw a man that was taking pictures of us- which I also assumed had something to do with the “training” we were there to do. But then, I looked over a second time to the man on the helipad and recognized him- it was Landon and I was instantly in complete shock. But as much shock as I was in- I knew in that second exactly why he was there and what was about to happen. This has been in only time in my life where I had nothing to say- I was speechless.
