Taylor and Chris’ story began in a uniquely small-town way. It was Chris' senior year of high school and Taylor's junior year. January 8, 2015 was an average, rainy Oregon winter's eve; the type of weather that encourages baggy clothes...not typical for sparking romance. It was the middle of basketball season, and Chris was lucky enough to encounter Taylor at a McDonald's where both of their school buses happened to stop on the way home. Unfortunately, Taylor's team had just come off an allegedly "frustrating" loss. If you know Taylor, you can imagine the kind of mood she was in and understand that this was NOT the best time for an introduction. Chris’ team had also lost that night, but after losing seemingly every single game that season, he was numb to it and was being his usual sociable self. In the midst of his conversation with a teammate’s grandparents, he went to throw away some trash– and missed. His mess landed at the feet of one very thrilled Taylor Steinhauer, who immediately picked it up and put it in the trash...all while giving him a hauntingly intense look of annoyance and disdain. Little did she know, that look sparked a need in Chris' mind to win her over. Now, after all these years, Taylor is still just as thrilled to clean up after Chris as she was on the night they met.

Chris is many things, but a master of secrecy he is not. After 7 years together, everyone – including Taylor – suspected a proposal was in the works. The evidence grew as the summer progressed: Chris ordered a ring-sizer off Amazon ‘just for fun’, UPS tried (and failed… and then tried and failed again) to deliver a noticeably ring-sized package, and plans were made for a trip to a spectacular national park. Needless to say, Taylor had her suspicions. Finally, on July 19, 2022, Chris and Taylor journeyed up Grinnell Glacier Trail, known as the jewel of Glacier National Park. It was a beautiful day for a hike, and the 10 mile trail led them through meandering green valleys carved out by long-ago glaciers. At the end of the trail, they were rewarded with a stunning lake view. At that moment, to precisely no one’s surprise, Chris popped the question. Taylor of course accepted, and the happy couple shared some pepperoni sticks. While the proposal was not exactly a shock, it was perfect.
