We are excited to be embarking on this next adventure together and we hope you will be able to join us in Santa Barbara for our wedding weekend September 13-15, 2019 as we celebrate. Santa Barbara is one of our favorite places. It is where we met, lived for six years, where we got engaged and is our go-to weekend away. It only seems fitting to tie the knot in this paradise. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do.
Corey's account... We first met in September of 2011 when I started at UCSB. Stef came by my office to say hi to my office-mate Lucas. Weirdly enough, Stef had also shared an office with Lucas while getting a master's at Montana State a few years prior. I distinctly remember thinking, "how the hell does Lucas know HER?". For the few years that followed, we knew each other as just another aspiring economist down the hall. Although, Stef says she often worked in the grad student computer lab, despite having an office, in hopes of running into me. It all changed one day in November 2013 when we were each out riding our bikes. Stef was with her good friend Ann, and I was riding solo. We bumped into each other at the bottom of Gibraltar Rd. (an iconic road bike climb). We ended up riding up the hill together chatting the entire way, and when we had enough climbing we decided we'd take a photo of the view and turn around. Ann thought we should take a photo together. One of us (Stef) thought it would be a good idea to strike a supply & demand pose. That was our first photo together, and after that we started riding bikes together most weekends and hanging out as friends. ...it took a while (ask all of our SB and grad school friends!), but we finally got over being shy and went on our first date a couple years later. The rest is history. Jack Johnson provides the condensed version of the story, which ironically was our first concert together. He played a surprise pop-up show in the UCSB quad in Fall of 2014. Go Gauchos. "Do you remember when we first met? I sure do, it was some time in early September. You were lazy about it, you made me wait around I was so crazy about you I didn't mind."
The proposal brought it all back to that day we met each other on Gibraltar Rd. We had been planning a trip down to Santa Barbara, and a couple weeks before, I started putting the plan in action. The plan was to re-create that famous photo on a ride up Gibraltar Rd. I called Ann so she could convince Stef that we should ride that weekend. I called Fran, Marko, Tessa, and Kelsey to plan a little surprise party at the Mission after the ride. And I called Stef's dad Mark to have him fly down and join the surprise. It all worked like a charm -- Stef was surprised at every turn, and I was relieved it all went according to plan! Check out the "Photos" section of the website to see a picture of Stef with her arm still in the supply and demand pose. For the rest of the day we picnicked at the Mission lawn, took a walk on the beach, went out for a celebratory dinner, and partied under the Super Blood Wolf Moon. Now we look forward to partying with all of you under the Harvest Moon in September!
