How We Met

10.14.15

Our first date was on a brisk Wednesday night in October, coincidentally close to where we now live. Dustin asked Stacy to go out for drinks and she suggested they go to Library Bar, although she's still convinced that he picked the place (he didn't). Stacy ordered an Amaretto Sour, much to Dustin's surprise and amusement. We spent the night talking about the photographs of cows in hats hanging on the walls (google "Jean Baptiste Mondino cows" for a real treat), but other than that Dustin couldn't hear much of what Stacy said the whole night. He did however do a pretty good job of faking it and keeping up his end of the conversation. After they parted ways Dustin texted Brandon (groomsman extraordinaire) and Jason (Amaretto Sour aficionado) to tell them all about the girl he had just met, but mostly to tell them about the Amaretto Sour. Meanwhile Stacy didn't tell a single person about Dustin for months for fear of jinxing it. Her friends were less than pleased when they finally heard about this wonderful guy she had been seeing 3 months later...but that's neither here nor there.

When We Knew

5.30.16

Our first trip to Maine (Stacy's favorite place) started with an adventure to go choose the horses for that summer at camp. Dustin obviously played an integral part in selecting top notch horses for Stacy's riding program. Next we went to camp where Dustin got to experience his first taste of Mataponi magic and Stacy had to decide if he passed the "camp test". Good thing he liked camp or this story would have gone very differently. We spent the rest of the weekend exploring camp and Maine with friends and seeing all of the sights. Make sure to check out Peak's Island, Old Port, and the Portland Headlight Light House (thankfully no longer covered in scaffolding as it was that weekend) when you're up in Maine for the wedding! We ended the weekend (Memorial Day) in Ogunquit before heading back to NYC. We took a walk along the Marginal Way cliffs behind Oarweed's Restaurant (highly recommended for lunch!) and spent a few minutes looking out at the water. Stacy said "I love you", Dustin said "Well that's convenient....because I love you too", Stacy cried, and we've been looking forward to our wedding ever since.

The Proposal

3.6.18

Dustin came home from work one Wednesday and nervously pushed past Stacy, claiming he had to use the bathroom, but really mentally preparing himself for what he was about to do. Stacy was not pleased that Dustin barely said hello to her. While he was pumping himself up, Stacy was busy putting laundry away in the bedroom. Next thing she knew, Dustin was out of the bathroom and calling her to come into the kitchen, which was weird and annoying because couldn't he see that she was busy with the laundry? Nonetheless, Stacy obliged and joined Dustin in the kitchen. In typical Stacy fashion she was standing VERY close to Dustin so he had to push her back (odd choice, could have used words) in order to drop to one knee safely. At this point, Stacy realized what was going on (in actuality Stacy knew what was "going on" on Tuesday when Dustin asked her to go to dinner the next night and he was immediately like "GREAT BECAUSE I ALREADY HAVE A RESERVATION". She wanted to make the reservation and get those Open Table points so the reservation already being made was a big tip off that something fishy was happening). Next we think Dustin asked Stacy to marry him and she said yes, but who really remembers. As a shock to everyone who heard the story, Stacy did not cry (probably because she already knew) and Dustin didn't know what to do with the fact that Stacy wasn't crying. We're sure she'll make up for it at the wedding. So will he.
