If you’ve never seen the Rocky National Park, carve out time to drive up the North St. Vrain River canyon to Estes Park (30 min). Recommend driving through town to enter the park through the north entrance. Take the loop through the park that is pictured (will require a National Park Pass). You’ll experience stunning views, including Deer Mountain and Rainbow Curve Overlooks. If you have time to poke around Estes Park, visit the famous hotel where The Shining and Dumb and Dumber were filmed. Or take a hike. You can easily extend your time in the CO Rockies!
The "Button Rock Dam via Sleepy Lion and Longmont Dam Road" Trail is a few miles upstream from Riverbend on the North St. Vrain Creek and offers a scenic hike. This 5.1 mile trail gains 856 feet of elevation to overlook the Longmont Reservoir and takes an average of 2 hour 21 minutes. Trailhead is 14 minutes from Lyons off Highway 36 towards Estes Park. It’s down the road from the Riverside Cabins.
