Question

Do I need to speak Spanish to get around Medellin?

Answer

Short answer - no, mostly! Long answer - most Colombians do not speak English, but in Poblado (the neighborhood where the wedding and all the hotel/restaurant recommendations are) is a very tourist-friendly neighborhood where most concierges and waiters will speak enough to help you out. We do recommend you download Google Translate or Deepl for trickier situations, but you'll be fine!

Question

Is Medellin a safe place to visit?

Answer

Absolutely! You'll be staying in El Poblado, which is the most tourist-friendly neighborhood in the city. It's like any big city in the world - don't go around flashing your diamonds, don't stumble home drunk and alone at 2 in the morning, don't try to buy any drugs from anyone on the street, and you'll be perfectly fine :)

Question

When should I book travel by?

Answer

Up to your discretion, but to get good prices on airfare and to ensure hotels aren't sold out, we'd suggest no later than 4 months before the wedding (late October). Check the travel tab for booking recommendations!

Question

Once I book my travel, do I need to let you know?

Answer

Please do! We want to know when people are arriving/leaving to know who will be in town when, and also to help support with ground transportation where we can. You can email us your flight itineraries at gonzler26@gmail.com :)

Question

How much will this trip cost me?

Answer

Very variable depending on where you're coming from, how long you want to stay, or how fancy of a hotel you want to stay in. Flights from major US cities are often around $400-$700 round trip (Europe is more, sorry European friends - probably closer to $800-$1100 for you). Hotel stays in Poblado (like the ones we recommended) run between $70-$150 per night, though obviously that can be more if you choose any upgrades. Airbnbs in the area are around $100-$180 per night, so if you're coming with a group, that will be cheaper (though it won't come with any of the amenities of a hotel, obviously). Meals out in Poblado will probably run you roughly $20 per person for dinners (including dessert and non-alcoholic drinks - cocktails are PRICEY in Poblado), and then $10 or so for breakfast and lunch. Ubers are ASTONISHINGLY cheap in Medellin - it costs roughly $7 to get all the way across town, and since you'll be staying in the same neighborhood as the wedding, any rides should run you like $3. The only more expensive one will be from the airport, which will cost around $30.

Question

How do I get around in Medellin?

Answer

Uber! There are plenty of Ubers around at all hours, and they're very safe.

Question

What's the weather like in Medellin?

Answer

Warm, but not hot - humid, and it often rains in the evenings. We strongly recommend layers for activities in general and for the wedding itself (as the wedding is partially outdoors) and it cools off when the sun sets.

Question

Am I allowed to bring my children and/or a plus one?

Answer

Children are absolutely welcome! Please let us know if you intend to bring a kid we didn't originally account for. If you have a plus one, it's indicated on your invite - if you don't have a plus one and there's someone special you're dying to bring, let us know! We have a "the more the merrier" mentality :)

Question

Am I allowed to take photos at the wedding?

Answer

At the ceremony - please do not! We will have professional photographers and videographers there, and we'd like to have the photos without everybody's phones in them. At all other points in the wedding - yes please!! As many as you like - and share them wherever and however you like!
