Soojung and Phil met one fateful day at UC Berkeley, when they exchanged numbers so Phil could share tips on applying to the school's business program. After their initial coffee chat at Cafe Milano, lunches at Golden Bear Cafe, and several strolls through campus, the two bonded over being third-culture kids: born of one culture, raised in another. Whether it's talking about their love of travel, puppies, and an insatiable appetite for good food and desserts, Soojung and Phil just clicked. Soojung loved the way Phil made her laugh - even when she is feeling down. Phil loved her curiosity, sense of wonder, eagerness to explore new countries, and vibrant laughter that could brighten every classroom she walked into. Time really flew by when they were together. It still does. That's how they know they found their other half.
It was around Valentine's Day. Soojung and Phil were on their way to a nice Valentine's day dinner, when Phil said they had to make a stop before heading to the restaurant. 'Mischievous', thought Soojung, but she shrugged it off. When they rolled into a very residential neighborhood of East Palo Alto (EPA), Soojung was very confused. As some of you reading this may know, EPA is not the safest neighborhood to be in, especially after sunset. As Phil led her towards a house, she wondered to if they were getting a puppy. Why else would they be in EPA at this time of day? As they stepped into the house, a song started playing. It was a song from their favorite movie. Every step they took, there were objects that reminded them of their time together: hundreds of photos taken together, movie tickets, brochures from musicals, concert tickets, even the MUNI pass from their first SF date. Unfortunately, there were no puppies. But when Phil got on his knee and asked Soojung to marry him, she knew that he makes her happier than all the puppies in the world ever could.
